Scriptures: Acts 2:17-18, Psalms 2:8, Psalm 37:4, 1 Kings 3:5, Psalms 20:4, Psalms 20:5, Exodus 14:11, Exodus 16:3, Psalms 78:40, Psalms 78:41, Numbers 14:22, Numbers 14:23, Numbers 14:6, Numbers 14:7, Numbers 14:8, Numbers 14:9, Numbers 14:10

Acts 2:17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

Acts 2:18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

God has promised to put a dream and a vision into every heart. In your heart is, probably what may seem to you, a huge dream. Many think, “That’s just me and my wishes. That couldn’t be God.” Many adults say, “I’ve gone just about as far as I can go. I probably won’t do much better than where I am right now in life.” I want to tell you that’s not God because our God is limitless.

Psalms 2:8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.

In other words, there is no end to what God wants to do in your life. There is no end or limit to what the father desires to do for you. He has placed a big dream in your heart.

YOU WERE NOT CREATED TO BE AVERAGE.

You were not created to live a mediocre life. Certainly, you are not here to barely make it through life always struggling. Without a doubt, you are to live a supernatural abundant life. Of course, you were not created to think small. God wants you to dream big. Inside of your heart is God’s Spirit and God thinks big. The dream God gives is big. Dream big.

YOU WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THE abundant life you desire unless you first dream big.

(Amplified) Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires {and} secret petitions of your heart.

The Bible says there are secret petitions – some big dreams – in your heart. The reason they are secret petitions is probably because they seem so big, so crazy, so “out there” that you will only talk to the Lord about them. You may be afraid that anyone else would think you had lost your mind. Don’t allow them to slow your dreaming. Dream big.

That scripture said to delight yourself in the Lord. Have you ever noticed how a person can be going through a really bad time? Maybe their marriage is crumbling, or they have lost their job. Their dreams are shattered. They begin coming to church and delighting in the Lord. The next thing you know is their bad situation works out and their dream is alive again. They begin to dream big once more.

A SERIOUS KEY TO THE SECRET PETITIONS is delighting yourself in the Lord.

I encourage you today to delight yourself in the Lord. Enjoy the Lord. You should enjoy praising him. Also, enjoy praying. I wish you could enjoy reading his word, and enjoy church. Find a ministry in the church that you can be a part of, or create one. To see your big dream come true, you need to delight yourself in him.

The Bible tells us the story of Solomon. Solomon had big dreams. He wanted to be a great king. He wanted to build an enormous temple unlike anything in the world to glorify God. The Bible tells us that Solomon delighted himself in the Lord. Once he went to the Tabernacle, which was church in those days, and offered a thousand burnt offerings. In other words, he worshiped the Lord without measure. There was no end to his delighting in the Lord. Here is what the Bible says happened immediately after Solomon did that.

1 Kings 3:5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

The very night after Solomon delighted himself in the Lord, the Lord told Solomon to ask for whatever he wanted. We know how Solomon came out. He not only fulfilled his dream and built the temple, the nation became great and known all over the world and his abundance has never been outdone. Solomon did dream big.

I will never forget what happened to my wife one day. I had moved her from her family and home to this city. We were living in a house where the plaster on the ceiling would fall into our bed. The roof leaked. There were some other circumstances going on that made all that even worse. It was not a good situation, but Judy made herself delight in the Lord. She battled depression, but she continued delighting in the Lord. One day as she was delighting herself in the Lord, he said, “Judy, what do you want?” She gave some “spiritual” answers like she wanted the church to do well. She wanted people to be blessed, etc. But the Lord said, “NO. What do you want?”

Again she gave her “spiritual” list. The Lord again said, “NO. What do YOU want?” Finally, Judy gave a list of only three things. One would think that a depressed person could do a little better than that. She wanted some new clothes, and she wanted to move into a nice house. Also, she wanted a better car. Within a few weeks, she had new clothes, we had moved into the house we live in today, and we were driving a brand-new Mercury Marquis. Everything she had asked for happened. I wish Judy’s list had been a little more “out there” on the abundant side.

I wish she had dreamed a little bigger.

However, I am sure the next time the Lord asks her that question she will have a long list. The Lord also gave her the spiritual things she asked for, but he wanted to give her what she dreamed for too. Dream big.

Psalms 20:4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

Psalms 20:5 We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests.

The Lord wants your plans to succeed. He wants to grant all your requests. He wants your big dreams to happen, but some of us need to learn how to delight ourselves in the Lord. You need to cut loose and shout for joy! Too, you need to get excited about Jesus. Furthermore, you need to tell people about your faith and your love for God. Moreover, you need to sacrifice 1,000 burnt offerings to the Lord. What I mean by that is let there be no end to your delight. A key to your big dreams coming true is delighting in the Lord.

OFTEN WE LIMIT GOD AND THE WAY we limit him is by not delighting in him.

Instead, we limit him by doubting and unbelief.

The children of Israel had a big dream but were only able to experience a part of it. Their dream was to be set free from slavery and to have the land that God promised Abraham. The Bible says they cried out to God and God heard their cry. He came down to make their big dream come true. God did miracle after miracle right in front of their eyes. He turned a river to blood, he sent frogs upon Egypt, he sent lice and sores, and he rained down fire and hail upon Egypt, and on and on. All the while he protected his people from the plagues that came upon Egypt.

God sent the death angel to kill the firstborn Egyptian and finally, Pharaoh let God’s people go to live their dream. The Lord did all sorts of things to make their dream happen. They marched out of Egypt with the riches of Egypt following the cloud that was leading them toward their big dream. But do you know what the first thing was that they did? They allowed a place for doubt and unbelief as they looked at the Red Sea.

Exodus 14:11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?

We all know what happened. God opened the Red Sea and then closed it on the Egyptian army and destroyed their enemies. It was amazing that after watching so many miracles, they doubted, but surely now they would have faith. But do you know what? In no time at all they doubted again.

Exodus 16:3 “Oh, that we were back in Egypt,” they moaned. “It would have been better if the LORD had killed us there! At least there we had plenty to eat. But now you have brought us into this desert to starve us to death.”

I can relate to wanting something to eat and so can you. I can tell by looking at some of you that you like to eat too. Don’t look at me funny. Some of you are thinking right now, Delbert, as soon as you get done, I am going to go eat. I hope you get done early so I can beat the Baptist to Don Lolo’s. We love to eat and we don’t want to miss one meal. Neither did they. Nothing wrong with eating, but we need to get the priority of delighting ourselves in the Lord.

We all know what God did. He gave them manna from heaven and quail from the desert. Surely then they would believe now. Certainly, all those miracles they saw that set them free in Egypt – opening the Red Sea, destroying their enemies, water from a rock, manna from heaven, and quail from the desert – would cause them to believe. But no, they doubted over and over and over. Instead of delighting in the Lord, they doubted. Instead of focusing on what God could do, they focused on what they didn’t have and could not do. Through their doubt, wrong focus, and SMALL THINKING, they limited God.

Psalms 78:40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

Psalms 78:41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

They did not experience their big dream because they limited God by doubting and by not allowing all the Lord had done for them to develop faith in God. They walked in a portion of their big dream, but they never entered into it the way they wanted.

I BELIEVE THAT MANY OF YOU HAVE a big dream.

Cry out to God and he will begin causing your dream to happen. But whatever you do, don’t doubt. I want to encourage you today not to focus on what you don’t have or on what you can’t do but rather focus on what God can do. DREAM BIG DREAMS and believe that God will open seas for you.

WE ALL – FROM TIME TO TIME – get discouraged.

Even after God has done great things in our lives like he did for the children of Israel. God will save our marriages, heal our bodies, deliver us from horrible situations, and on and on as he takes us toward our dreams. Yet, if not careful, we will find ourselves doubting God.

The way we battle doubting and continue to dream big is by delighting in the Lord and remembering all he has done for us in the past. I look back at my life and I see time after time that the Lord supernaturally delivered me just as he did for the children of Israel. I remember once I was driving to Atlanta, and I was going at least 55 mph (at least) and the steering wheel came off the steering column. The automobile went off the road and flipped. Glass and dirt were flying everywhere. I remember thinking, “I am either going to die or be a horrible mess.”

Finally, the car stopped. and I was still alive. So, I got out and examined myself for blood and missing parts. Miraculously there was no blood and no missing parts. God has proven faithful in my life time after time with supernatural event after supernatural event. I know it has been that way in your life. God is trying to lead us to our big dream. We can’t allow doubt and unbelief to stop us.

I LOOK BACK AT ALL THE MIRACLES

I see that God gave me a beautiful wife and beautiful children. He has always provided for my needs. Nineteen years ago this September, we began this ministry. There have literally been nineteen years of miracles. God has moved in all sorts of ways. There has been manna from heaven, water from a rock, quail from the wilderness, bitter waters made sweet, and victory over every enemy imaginable, and on and on. Why in the world would I doubt him now? My whole family is saved and serving the Lord. As you know my son works with me in the ministry. Plus, my children have married beautiful Godly people. Also, my grandchildren are beautiful.

After giving me all of that, why would God not lead me to my dream? When I realize all of that, I realize there is no doubt that God will fulfill my dream – my secret petitions and I dream big because I do not want to limit him now.

It’s easier for me to delight in him than to doubt him because I see all he has done. I encourage you to do the same thing. Instead of thinking about what you can’t do, think about what God can do. Think about what he has done for you. Then ask, why would I doubt now?

HOW MANY CAN LOOK BACK AND SEE that God has truly taken care of you and been there for you?

Raise your hands, please.

Let’s not be like the children of Israel and displease God. Let’s not limit God. They never learned their lesson. Plus, they never learned to delight in the Lord. Also, they were never grateful. Furthermore, they never appreciated what the Lord had done for them. They continued to doubt.

Numbers 14:22 not one of the men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I performed in Egypt and in the desert but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times –

Numbers 14:23 not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it.

Did you know that out of all those people who had the dream of the land flowing with milk and honey, houses, land, riches, and abundance, only two families actually experienced it? Joshua and Caleb were the only ones to live their dream. They refused to focus on what they couldn’t do and would only focus on what God had done and could do.

You remember the story. Moses sent twelve spies into the land. After forty days, ten of them gave a negative report. They focused on what they could not do. They focused on the giants and the walled cities. Joshua and Caleb focused on what God could do.

(TLB) Numbers 14:6 Two of the spies, Joshua (the son of Nun), and Caleb (the son of Jephunneh), ripped their clothing

Numbers 14:7, 9-10

7 and said to all the people, “It is a wonderful country ahead,

8 and the Lord loves usHe will bring us safely into the land and give it to us. It is very fertile, a land ‘flowing with milk and honey’!

9 Oh, do not rebel against the Lord, and do not fear the people of the land. For they are but bread for us to eat! The Lord is with us and he has removed his protection from them! Don’t be afraid of them!”

10 But the only response of the people was to talk of stoning them…

Joshua and Caleb dreamed big and lived their dream. They focused on what God can do and delighted in the Lord. You too can experience your dream. Delight in the Lord. Do not allow doubt and unbelief to enter.

Just as with Joshua and Caleb, God has equipped you with everything you need to live a victorious life. On the inside of you is the Spirit of the Almighty God and he is unlimited in possibility. You are full of incredible potential. God has put creativity and big ideas in you. Delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. God didn’t make any of you average. You are created to excel and do great things. Focus on what God can do by remembering what he has already done. God has given you a big dream. You can live your dream and have the abundant life that Jesus came to give you.

How many are going to delight in the Lord and believe for the big dream? How big can you dream? Give the Lord a shout and handclap. Amen.
