The use of rings in marriage dates back to some 4,000 years ago. The circle is the symbol of eternity as it has no beginning and no end. The open center is more than a hole. It symbolizes a gateway leading to a life together into the unknown. Around 860 AD Christians began using rings in their marriage ceremonies for both the man and the woman. Through time, people have worn the wedding ring on all fingers and both hands. We Christians wear it on the left hand’s fourth finger called the ring finger. The thought was a vein in the fourth finger went straight to the heart. While not true, it is romantic and stuck.

There are amazing results when we husbands are considerate of our wives, respect our wives, and see our wife as the partner in life. What are the results? Nothing will hinder your prayers. Husband, are your prayers being answered? If not, how are you treating your wife?

The picture Peter paints is not how perfect Abraham was, but how imperfect Abraham was, sort of like your husband. Peter wants us to see the model Sarah is though she had a goofy husband. Abraham made some very bad decisions, yet Sarah called him lord. In the craziest of times, Sarah was submissive to her own husband allowing her inner beauty, her gentle and quiet spirit, to be the tool bringing her the life she wanted. Sarah lived to be one hundred and twenty-seven years old (Gen 23:1) still married to Abraham for over one hundred years.
