Your Dream. God has put a dream and a vision in every heart. He has a plan to give you a hope and a future. There are desires in your heart because God put them there to lead you to blessings and to advance his kingdom. You may be like Moses and your dream has been pushed down. God wants to set it on fire again. You may be like Sarah and think you are too old, but God wants to birth the promise.

Your Dream Sermon Series Summation

Scriptures: Acts 2:17-18, Jeremiah 29:11, Proverbs 29:18, Psalms 37:4, Psalms 145:19, Exodus 3:13-14, Genesis 15:1, Genesis 18:14, Genesis 37:19, Genesis 37:10, Habakkuk 2:2, Genesis 28:12, Genesis 31:10-12, Proverbs 18:21, John 6:63, Matthew 12:37, Mark 11:23, 1 Samuel 17:43-46

Acts 2:17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men [neh-an-is’-kos: a youth] will see visions, your old men [pres-boo’-ter-os: elderly, senior] will dream dreams.

Acts 2:18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

God has promised to put a dream and a vision into every heart. The young person is to see it as a vision for victory. The older person is to realize that it is a dream that has directed. It’s ignited, flamed, and fanned by prophecy. A primary purpose of prophecy is to fan the flame of the personal dream and vision.

In your heart and my heart is a dream – a vision – that was placed there by God. It’s a dream to succeed and prosper and enjoy life to the full. It’s a dream to do both something specific for God and for your own self. It’s at the center of who we are. The fulfillment of it will give us the ultimate joy of life and the maximum success. It’s the spark that gets us out of bed every morning. It’s the motivation that gets us through tough times. It’s the dream.

IT’S GOD’S PERFECT WILL FOR YOUR LIFEThe dream may be to be a doctor, a teacher, a mother, an astronaut, the president, wealthy, a preacher, a builder, etc. God wants us to reach for it and direct our lives by it. It’s God’s plan for your life. It’s God’s will and plan to prosper us and give us a hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

That plan is wrapped up in the dream and vision in your heart. How many here have things you believe that God has put in your heart to accomplish?

I WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU TODAY to realize and reach for your God-given dream. We are only here for a short amount of time and we need to go all out for God and reach for the dream in our hearts. What we do for God we must do now. We need to make our lives count. We need to chase our dreams.

WHEN OUR DREAMS DIE (a better description is become dormant for they never die until we do) we have no passion for life. We become miserable, grumpy, critical, and judgmental people. We go through life only existing. We have no motivation because we have lost our vision for life. At church, we begin coming late. Then we begin missing. We loose our passion to bring people into the kingdom. We stop giving to the kingdom. We are no longer excited about God. We eventually stop attending. We become depressed, sick, and suicidal.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Happy people keep stirred in the dream for life. Maybe you have been through some tough times. Maybe you have been through a divorce, or sickness, or lost your job, or lost a loved one, or financial difficulties, or having problems with a child. The issue is not your problem. Your problem is the enemy has used that difficulty to push down your dream. We need to fire up our dream again.

GOD GIVES US OUR HEART’S DESIRES when we are delighting ourselves in him and pursuing the dream.

(TLT) Psalms 37:4 Be delighted with the Lord. Then he will give you all your heart’s desires.

(Amplified) Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires {and}secret petitions of your heart.

How many have some secret things you want to accomplish for God and for yourself? It’sthe dream and it gives life meaning. You’ve got to stir the dream.

GOD WANTS TO FULFILL YOUR DREAM.

Stirring your dreams and desires will bring God to your rescue.

Psalms 145:19 He fulfills the desires of those who reverence and trust him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them.

From what do you need rescuing – marital problems, debt, children, job, health? Stir upthe dream.

GOD WILL ALWAYS RESCUE US when we are reaching for the dream. It means the kingdom is advancing. Every time someone reached for his or her dream in the Bible, that person was blessed and the kingdom advanced. God wants your dream to come true as much as you. It will advance his kingdom.

“DELBERT, I DON‘T HAVE A DREAM,” some may say. No. The dream and vision is there. It’s your dream. It has simply been pushed down deep for some reason. It may be dormant, but it’s not dead and will not die until you do because it’s part of you.

I think about Moses. At a young age Moses had a burning dream in his heart to deliver Israel. In his fervency, he killed a man. Moses felt rejection and ran. He pushed the dream down deep inside his heart. It seemed dead, but it wasn’t dead. It was only dormant. One day God sent a burning bush to Moses and that bush caught the dream in his heart on fire again.

I WANT TO BE A BURNING BUSH TODAY for you. God needs your dream to live and burn again. Let me tell you why. There are people outside these doors who need to be delivered from bondage. They need to be delivered from the bondage of sin. They need to be delivered from the bondage of religion. If your dream is dormant, all you will be concerned about is Jethro’s few sheep while there is a multitude of people just outside these doors crying out to God for deliverance. God has heard their cry and is coming down, but he needs your dream to burn again. You can make all the excuses you want, but God is determined to set you on fire again.

Just as God did for Moses, he is going to give you a new and fresh revelation of who he is.

Exodus 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

God is going to give King’s Vineyard a new revelation about himself. If you will allow God to ignite the dream, he will give you a staff of power that will open Red Seas and bring water from rocks. He will send Aarons to help with your inadequacies. However, none of that will happen until the dream flames again and you begin walking towards it.

“OH DELBERT, I’M TOO OLD.” We seniors think that sometimes don’t we? We think we have crossed some age line that can stop God from fulfilling the dream and vision. You are not too old.

I think about Sarah. God put a vision in Sarah and Abraham’s heart to have a child.

Genesis 15:1 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”

God wants to greatly reward you and your reward is wrapped up in your dream. For years and years Sarah wanted the vision. Sarah wanted it so badly that she allowed her husband to lay with another woman. Finally, Sarah thought they were too old for God to move so she could experience the dream. One day the Lord himself, along with two angels (messengers) came to visit Abraham and Sarah.

I want to be an angel – messenger – sent today.

Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son.

Your dream is only a year away. Don’t stop reaching now. Is anything too hard for the Lord? You may laugh because you think you are too old. I want to tell you today that God can birth your dream. You will get pregnant Sarah. You will hold the dream.

“I TRIED IT ONCE, BUT IT FAILED. In fact, it was the biggest mess I ever experienced.” So? Does that mean the dream isn’t true? Abraham tried it once with Hagar and it was a horrible mess, but the dream was still true.

THE ENEMY WILL TELL YOU that you are too old, or he will get you involved with the counterfeit to keep you from birthing the real dream. You may have had to send away the bondwoman and her son, but the real promise is just ahead of you. The enemy doesn’t want Isaac to be born. That would be advancement for the kingdom and a step toward that which will crush the enemy’s head. Is ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR THE LORD?

GOD HAS GIVEN KING’S VINEYARD A PROMISE OF ISAAC. The enemy doesn’t want Isaac to come forth, so he has attacked your dream. If he can stop your dream, he can stop you. He is not going to roll over and allow you to reach this region. You are like me and everyone else. I know you care about Hagar and love Ishmael, but they are not the dream. Isaac is only a year away.

THE DREAM WILL CARRY US THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES ALL OUR LIVES. I think about Joseph the dreamer.

Genesis 37:19  “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other.

God put a dream in Joseph’s heart at a very early age. Because of the dream in his heart Joseph could never be satisfied with tending sheep and living in a tent. Joseph had a dream to rule.

Joseph appeared rebellious and spoiled because of the dream.

PARENTS AND YOUTH LEADERS let me encourage you to help young people find their dreams. You may have a dream for your child, but is it the dream that God gave them? Jacob’s dream for Joseph was not Joseph’s dream.

Genesis 37:10 When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had?”

My son Lance is extremely intelligent. He’s like his mother. Learning has always come easy to them. He was very popular in school. He was the student body president at Griffin High and graduated among the top in his class. Judy and I had a dream of him of being an entrepreneur or doctor or even the president. But that wasn’t the dream God had given to him. His dream was to be in the ministry. We had to bow to his dream. So, we sent him to seminary. He graduated suma cum lauda. Today he works with me in the ministry. I asked him last Wednesday if he were fulfilled. He is, but where Life Gate is today is not his dream. He has a dream to advance the kingdom much further than my dream.

Our daughter’s dream was to dance. She also had a dream for a big house, nice clothes, nice cars, and to have children. So, she married a lawyer. Today she lives in a $400,000 house, wears designer clothes, and drives a $40,000 automobile. She has two of the most beautiful children in the world.

Parents and youth leaders, if you can help your children find the dream, they won’t have time to rebel and cause trouble. They will be too busy reaching for their dream. A rebelling child is searching for who they are and meaning in life and that’s the dream.

We pastors and businessmen and women need to realize this too. If we have a church member or an employee that is unhappy, we need to realize they are not fulfilled. Help them find the dream in their heart. They are helping us live ours. How many problems would be solved if people figured out who they are and reached for the dream?

JOSEPH WAS ABLE TO GO THROUGH THE REJECTION of his family because he was somehow able to see God taking him toward his dream. “Egypt? That won’t be too bad. At least I won’t be chasing sheep and living in a tent.” He was able to endure the years of prison because he was somehow able to see God taking him toward his dream with the butler and baker. Dreams are powerful. The dream can take a little shepherd boy living in a tent to a throne and a palace.

King’s Vineyard has been given a dream by God when it was just a little thing with a few sheep living in a tent, as it were, moving from this building to that building. That dream is going to take King’s Vineyard through all the criticism of your half brothers and all the pits and all the prison times. You see, this area has a famine coming and you hold the solution in your dream. You will give people living water and the true bread of heaven. You’ve been storing it up for seven years. Keep ministering to every butler and baker that comes through those doors. Your greatest days are just ahead if you will allow the dream to take you to the throne.

We could go on talking about dreams and visions of people in the Bible. There is the coward Gideon to whom God gave a dream to lead God’s people out of oppression and poverty and idolatry; Ester with a dream to be queen; Ruth with a dream to marry Boaz; or Deborah with a dream to be the first woman judge. We could even talk about Jesus who had a crazy dream to bring a new kingdom; or the apostle Paul who had a dream and vision to preach the gospel of the kingdom to the whole world. But what I want to take a few minutes to do is talk about how the Bible teaches us to actually live and experiencethe dream.

How do we keep the dream and vision alive and eventually reach it?

  1. WRITE THE DREAM AND VISION.

Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

(TLB) And the Lord said to me, “Write my answer on a billboard, large and clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance

(Message) And then GOD answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run.

Something special happens when we take time to write the dream. Jesus wrote his dream. It’s called the New Covenant. Paul wrote his dream in his epistles.

Judy and I had a dream in 1983 to be debt free. We were heavily in debt. We wrote the dream and vision in a prayer-book. We both prayed over it and anointed it. One year later we were debt free.

We began Life Gate Church in 1987. We wrote down what we thought was a fifty year vision. Within three years, most of the things we had written had already happened. I think that everything we wrote in 1987 has taken place now. I plan to rewrite the vision this month when our elders meet.

FOR WHAT ARE YOU BELIEVING GOD? Is it for a happy marriage, health, your child, financial liberty, new job, a husband or wife, larger church, new house, to break some habits or addictions in your life, a ministry, etc. Write it down and make it clear – be specific. Put it in big letters like a billboard at a place you pass often to help you pray and keep it before you. That way it will remain alive and the enemy will not be able to push it down. It won’t be something that you pray and think about for three or four weeks and then forget. Every time you pass by, you remember.

You may not know at this minute exactly what to write, but I promise if you will ask the Lord to show you, he will. You may even have to make yourself stop writing. Something special will happen.

  1. SEE THE DREAM.Think about this.

Proverbs 23:7  For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he . . .

Think thoughts that make you see yourself living the dream. A car salesman knows that if he can get you to drive that automobile, the chances of your purchasing it goes up tremendously. You got to get inside your dream. See it happening.

There is a wonderful story about Jacob in Genesis chapters 30-31. God had given Jacob a dream of prosperity at Bethel.

Genesis 28:12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven . . .

Jacob had been working for Laban fourteen years and wanted to leave and live his dream. Laban wanted Jacob to stay. They made a deal. Jacob would continue watching Laban’s flock, but Jacob would get the speckled and spotted and ringstraked livestock that were born as his wages. The Bible says that Jacob placed peeled branches in the watering troughs and amazingly all the livestock began to produce speckled, spotted, or ringstraked offspring. Jacob’s dream of wealth became reality. Jacob explained how his dream became reality to Leah and Rachel.

Genesis 31:10 “In breeding season I once had a dream in which I looked up and saw that the male goats mating with the flock were streaked, speckled or spotted.

Genesis 31:11 The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’

Genesis 31:12 And he said, Look up and see that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled or spotted, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.

Why was it necessary for Jacob to look up and see this? Why couldn’t God just do it for him? Jacob needed to see it. It began painting the picture in his heart and as he thought it in his heart, he became. Our dreams will never come to pass if we focus on the natural. If we learn to focus on the dream, it will happen. It will begin as an empty canvas, but as we daily see and think it in our heart, we will become it. See yourself happily married, or healthy, or wealthy. See this church full of people rejoicing and being taught the word of God and going out and bringing in new folk. Lift up now your eyes and see.

I am desperately working on this one right now in my life. When I went into the ministry in 1985, I had been in Pastor Buren’s church that, at the time was about 80-120 people. I had never been a part of a large church. My vision of church was 80-120 people. I came to LaFayette and began with about 20 people. Within one year, we had 80-120 people. Amazingly, we stayed at 80-120 people for 18 years. We are in a tiny city, but we can do better than that. I had focused on everything possible in the natural to go beyond. I began lifting up my eyes into the spiritual dimension and seeing two services on Sunday filled with rejoicing, thanksgiving, and ministry. We are now to the place where we are seriously contemplating two services. In fact, it is a goal for next year.

We limit our lives by what we see in our hearts, or we expand our lives by what we see in our hearts.

  1. WE MUST SPEAK TO OBSTACLES ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE DREAM.

Words are unbelievably powerful.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

(Amplified) 18:20-21 A man’s [person’s] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Our lives are products of our words. Words are spirit and produce life or spirit and produce death.

John 6:63 . . . the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Our words justify us or condemn us.

Matthew 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Our words justify the dream or condemn the dream. We cannot be condemning and critical and judgmental and expect to experience the dream. However, we can justify the dream by speaking good words of faith. Jesus taught us to speak faith filled words.

Mark 11:23  “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

The dream of Jesus was to bring a new kingdom. In Mark 4 Jesus encountered a furious storm that threatened his dream. The storm was so severe that it frightened the experienced seamen for their lives that were with him. Jesus rebuked the wind and spoke the solution to the waves – “Peace! Be still!” It became completely calm. He then turned and questioned his disciples about their faith in doing what he had just done.

The enemy is not going to roll over and allow you to easily sail to your dream. You must send forth faith filled words into the obstacles to make it disappear.

I love what David did. God had put a dream in young David’s heart to be king of Israel, but there was this mountain of a man named Goliath defying his dream. The enemy did not want David to be king. If David became king, the kingdom of God would advance and that entire area would change. There would be praise and worship and people would serve God. The enemy needed to kill David, but God came to his rescue. David didn’t focus on that mountain of a man. He didn’t focus on the fact that Goliath was ten feet tall and he was about five. He didn’t focus on the fact that Goliath was a trained warrior with a shield and a javelin. Instead, David focused on the greatness of his God to fulfill the dream. David walked out on that battlefield and Goliath cursed David.

1 Samuel 17:43 He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods

David spoke faith filled words to that obstacle.

1 Samuel 17:45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

1 Samuel 17:46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

David said I will defeat you. I will cut off your head. I will feed your carcass to the fowls of the air. David didn’t think those words. He spoke those words in a determined violent way. We know what happened. David took out Goliath exactly the he said he would. David eventually experienced his dream and became the king of Israel. You must learn to speak to your mountains. Speak to your dream.

You may be like Abraham and think you tried it once and it didn’t work. No. The dream is true. Do it again. You need to write the dream and make it clear. You need to see the dream and live it in your heart. You need to speak to the obstacles that attempt to block your dream. We have got to be like Joseph and David with a vision of victory and allow our dreams to take us places we cannot imagine.

How many are here today and want to live your dream? If that is you, shout to the Lord and give him a handclap.
