What Is The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Child Father’s Day sermon video audio notes. Tell me the best present a dad can give his children.

Scriptures: Genesis 4:16-17, Genesis 4:25-26, Genesis 6:1-8, Exodus 20:5-6, Proverbs 4:7, Proverbs 1:8, Proverbs 4:1, Proverbs 5:1, Proverbs 6:20, Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 9:10

Today is Father’s Day. I want to begin with a little Bible trivia. Adam was the first natural father fathering Cain and Able and Seth. Who was the next father? I’ll give you a minute to think about it. How did Adam’s fatherhood work out? One son violently murdered the other and then left home. It didn’t work out too well did it? Who was Adam’s father? The Lord God was, correct? Can you have a godly father and not be a good father or mother? Have you figured out who the next father was after Adam?

Genesis 4:16-17 So CAIN WENT OUT FROM THE LORD’S PRESENCE and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch.

This Enoch was not the Enoch who walked with God (Gen 5:22-24). Genesis 4:18-24 gives the names of about 1,100 years, ten generations, of fathers in the lineage of Cain who became more and more wicked out from the Lord’s presence. After Cain killed Able, Adam fathered another son. His name was Seth.

What Is The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Child?

Genesis 4:25-26 Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time MEN BEGAN TO CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD.

And so it went for ten generations. All of Genesis chapter five, 32 verses, tells of around 1,100 years, ten generations, of men fathering sons and daughters. Not one woman’s name is given in all 32 verses. Why? Fathers are primarily responsible for continuing a godly lineage. It began with Seth and ended with Noah. For ten generations there were two family lines of human beings, two societies, and two cultures on the earth – the lineage of Cain who was out from the presence of the Lord, and the lineage of Seth who would call on the name of the Lord. The family of Cain originated a secular culture. The family of Seth originated a sacred culture, but in which direction did society go, secular or sacred?

Ten generations later, around 1,100 years from Cain and Seth, there were only eight righteous people on the planet. Society always migrates to Cain becoming demonically influenced and producing demonized children.

Genesis 6:1-8 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, THE SONS OF GOD saw that the DAUGHTERS OF MEN were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. THEN the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.” The NEPHILIM were on the earth in those days – and also afterward – WHEN THE SONS OF GOD went to the daughters of men and had CHILDREN by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. The LORD saw how GREAT MAN’S WICKEDNESS ON THE EARTH HAD BECOME, AND THAT EVERY INCLINATION OF THE THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART WAS ONLY EVIL ALL THE TIME.

The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air – for I am grieved that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

Who are the sons of God? They are angels created by God thus “sons of God.” The same term is used in Job 1:6; 2:1; and 38:7. These sons of God are satanic. What are the Nephilim? These are the children of demons and humans called giants in the KJV and show up again in the land of Canaan (Num 13:33). Goliath was a Nephilim. (I know. It’s weird, but it’s true.) When fathers do not do their responsibility society and culture go evil producing a deluge of judgments from God.

Being a good father has always been a high priority to me though obviously not a priority of many. I fear my “Baby Boomer” generation and the following “Xer” generation have sentenced the next three or four generations to devastating experiences of disastrous proportions. This is clear in the scriptures and proven by history.

Exodus 20:5-6 …for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for THE SIN OF THE FATHERS TO THE THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATION of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

We continue to see the two lineages of Cain and Seth – those punished and those blessed. Fathers, not mothers, determine the punished lives or the blessed lives of their children. When fathers follow the lineage of Cain it will take three or four generations to root out the evil fathers produced in the hearts of their children. When fathers neglect their responsibility the results are devastating.

My title today is “What Is The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Child?” What do you think this gift is? Likely you might say to lead his child to salvation, or love, or maybe spend time with his child, or leave an inheritance for his child, etc. No. Actually, it’s none of those. What is it?

What Is The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Child?

Proverbs 4:7 WISDOM IS SUPREME; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

(NLT) Proverbs 4:7 GETTING WISDOM IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING you can do!

(KJV) Proverbs 4:7 WISDOM IS THE PRINCIPAL THING; therefore get wisdom…

Nothing is more important than wisdom. The word supreme is re’shiyth – the first in place, time, order or rank (spec. a firstfruit). Wisdom is the greatest gift any father can give any child. If a father is capable of teaching his child wisdom the child will come to salvation, the father will spend time with his child, and the father will leave a healthy inheritance. God’s plan is for fathers to give their children wisdom. Doing this always leaves a godly generation. Adam obviously failed Cain even though Adam walked with God in the garden, but seemed to get it right with Seth.

Most fathers in the lineage of Seth obviously failed their children though Seth and the fathers in the line to Noah got it right. It can be done. It must be done. How have and are you doing father? Have you given and are you giving your child wisdom? If you haven’t maybe it’s not too late, Adam. God will give you a second chance. Maybe you have, but the child isn’t walking in wisdom. They may turn. Our job as fathers is to give them wisdom.

Today, and next time, I want to show giving our children wisdom is indeed us father’s responsibility, but also show us how to do this. This will also be insightful for women married or not. It will tell you what kind of a man to wait for if not married and how to help your husband if you are married. Eve was to help Adam. This responsibility is clearly spelled out in the book of Proverbs as a father instructs his son, so we will be using Proverbs as our guide.

Proverbs 1:8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction…

Proverbs 4:1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction…

My son, PAY ATTENTION TO MY WISDOM, listen well to my WORDSProverbs 5:1

Proverbs 6:20 My son, keep your father’s commands…

(See also Pro 2:1; 3:1; 4:10, 20; 6:1; 7:1, etc.) The primary duty of a father is not to take out the trash, although he should. Also, the primary duty of a father is not to fix things or get things fixed. The primary duty of a father is to teach his children wisdom, especially the sons. Why especially sons? As we’ve seen, as fathers go so goes the generation. Furthermore, as the generation goes, so goes the nation. Moreover, as the nation goes so goes history. God’s punishment comes because of the father’s sin.

God took the primary principles of the wisdom a father should teach his children and packaged them in snippets called the book of Proverbs, a book of God’s wisdom. The word “wisdom” dominates the Book of Proverbs. It is found fifty times. Wisdom is far more than intelligence. Wisdom is conduct. Teaching our children wisdom is teaching them how to conduct their lives.

In the minutes remaining let’s begin looking at ten crucial wisdoms every father should teach his child. If a child conducts their life according to these ten wisdoms they will be a blessing to you father, a blessing to their mother, a blessing to their society and following generations, and will be blessed by God.

1) Teach your children to fear the Lord.

Proverbs 1:7 THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverbs 9:10 “THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Every wise person fears the Lord. It’s a great way to determine if you are wise or if anyone is wise. Father, you begin here. Wisdom and everything good begins with fearing God. Someone said, “I didn’t think we were to fear God.” Who told you that? Jesus said don’t fear someone who could simply kill you. Fear God who can after death throw you into hell (Luk 12:5). Jesus said you better reverence God. Yes, teach your children God is kind, loving, and merciful, but teach your children the power of God and the judgments of God. Teach your children who God loves he chastens (Heb 12:6-7). This is the first aspect of the greatest thing you can ever give your child. The fear of the Lord is where wisdom begins. Your child will never be wise if your child does not fear the Lord.

How do you think fathers do today teaching their children to have a healthy fear of the Lord? It doesn’t seem fathers do very well here. One reason is that children don’t have a healthy fear of their natural father. How do you do here father? Do you know enough to teach them about God? If not, then bring them to a place where you and they will learn to fear God. Talk about the things of God with your children. Do your children observe (pay attention) you worshiping, praising, giving, and reading God’s word? How are you teaching your children to conduct their lives? It begins by fearing the Lord.

We will begin here next time and look at the ten wisdoms every father should give every child.

What Is The Greatest Gift A Father Can Give His Child?

Which way are we going – the way of Cain, or the way of Seth? Are there Nephilim fathers today producing demonized children? You’re not a Nephilim dad, are you? What are we as fathers bringing upon our children – God’s punishment to the third and fourth generation, or God’s endless love and blessings? What is the supreme gift you are giving your child? I pray it’s wisdom beginning with teaching your child to fear the Lord.
