New Beginning sermon audio notes

In a few minutes, we will have a special time of prayer. We will be coming down, lighting a match from the candle, and then lighting a prayer candle. We will then go to the altars and pray. Pray about anything we wish, but I want to make a few suggestions. Perhaps you have someone specifically that you desire to see come to the Lord. The candle can be lit with that in mind and you can pray for that person. I ask you to pray that Life Gate will continue doing the Lord’s will.

Pray

Of course you will want to pray for yourself and pray for your family for the upcoming year. Perhaps you have a loved one that passed away and is heavy on your heart this season. The candle can be lit as a memorial to them. When you have finished praying, leave the candle burning. After all have prayed that wish to, we will sing a few songs and allow the candles to burn as incense.

REV 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

REV 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.

In the Revelation, as the seventh seal was opened and the trumpets were about to sound, prayer was lifted with the smoke of the incense. The prayers were not the smoke. However, the smoke gave a picture of prayers as they ascend before God. As we all light our candle and pray, we will have a vivid picture of our prayers uniting and ascending before the Lord. What a great way to end the year and to begin the next.

I want to speak a few minutes about A New Beginning in the New Year. God is a God of New Beginnings.

1. Creation

The New Year speaks of a time for a new beginning. Beginning again, or a new beginning, is woven into the scriptures. We read in Genesis 1:1,

GEN 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

We note that something obviously happened between verses one and two. After God created the heaven and the earth, it became void. We know that dinosaurs date back about 230 million years. Adam dates back about six thousand years. So, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out this was a new beginning. Genesis chapter one is not an account of creation. It is an account of a New Beginning. God is a God of New Beginnings.

2. Adam/Noah

The Lord began again with Adam, but a little further into Genesis, we find there was a new beginning with Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

3. Abraham/Jesus

The Lord God began a nation called the Hebrews with Abraham. However, there was a new beginning through Jesus Christ with a new nation of people that were not a people, but are now the people of God (1Pe 2:10).

4. Moses/Jesus

The Lord God began a law called the Old Covenant with Moses. It was a law of “thou shalt” and “thou shalt not.” Then there was a New Beginning with a New Covenant through Jesus Christ. It is a beginning of love. Jesus said a new commandment I give you that you love one another (Joh 13:34). God began again.

5. Nicodemus

Even in the dimension of the Spirit there are New Beginnings. Jesus told Nicodemus that he needed to begin again. Nicodemus must be born again. He needed a new beginning not only in the natural, but also in the dimension of the Spirit. That new beginning would cause Nicodemus to see the kingdom of God. If Nicodemus would begin even again with the water and the spirit, he could enter the kingdom of God. So many times with my walk with the Lord, I have come to a place of beginning again. I experienced a New Beginning.

JOH 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

JOH 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6. Seasons and Years

Woven into creation are New Beginnings. In Genesis chapter one we read,

GEN 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Before the scientists determined that the earth moved around the sun, God said the sun and the moon would not only divide day and night, but years and seasons. Every trip the earth makes around the sun (s-u-n) is a New Beginning. All that is necessary is to remain in the correct orbit. The seasons will change. Winter will eventually become spring and spring summer, but the new beginning will come automatically.

There is first the natural and then the spiritual (1Co 15:46). My spiritual life is the same. My times and years and seasons are determined by my rotation around the Son (S-o-n). This winter time will eventually become spring. I will feel the sap of the Holy Spirit rising in me. I will again bud and when summer comes, I will bear fruit. All that is necessary is that I remain in my orbit around the Son.

We are at this time today. It is the last day of the year. Tonight at 12:00 midnight a new beginning will take place, ready or not. My job is to have you as ready spiritually as possible.

New Year

Here we are in a new millennium. According to our calendar, it is time to begin again. I am not big on New Year resolutions. I am big on New Beginnings. New Beginnings are of God. There is no Y2k scare this year. There is no threat of extension. Let’s focus on the Lord. Focus on the abundant life that Jesus came that we could enjoy. Let’s focus on bringing those far from God into the kingdom. Let’s focus on our families. Focus on being Church At Its Best. Let’s have a New Beginning.

As you come, let’s pray that the next year will be the best year ever.
