Friendship Before Function. Before we can go make disciples we must become friends with the people we are attempting to win to Jesus. People became friends of Jesus before they became converts to Christ. The church was birthed out of friendship, not religion. We have lost the art of personal evangelism.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
2 Kings 2:15 Now when he had departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab {coming} to meet him; and he greeted him and said to him, “Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart?” And Jehonadab answered, “It is.” {Jehu said,} “If it is, give {me} your hand.” And he gave him his hand, and he took him up to him into the chariot.
Matthew 11:16-19
16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other {children,}

18 “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’
19 “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
Matthew 9:36-38
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
