New Year Sermon
Prayer for the New Year

Prayer for the New Year sermon notes
In a few minutes, we will invite each one to come to the candle altar, light a candle, and then spend some time praying at the worship altars. The lighting of candles or lamps in association with prayer and communion has been a form of worship for thousands of years.
I want to attempt to stir us concerning prayer for the next few minutes before we come to pray. We are ending this year and beginning a new year. The best way to do this is not with celebration or Champaign or even a kiss from your sweetie. Prayer is the best way to begin a new year. Many people will be going through the same issues next year that they went through this year and the year before. It doesn’t need to be that way. We can get a breakthrough. Prayer leads the charge in a breakthrough.
Most of us are familiar with the Tabernacle of Moses. The Tabernacle of Moses is a fabulous teaching concerning coming into the presence of God to worship. The Tabernacle was the church in the wilderness (Act 7:38). How would you like getting up and coming to that church every Sunday? Of course, you would need to bring your goat or lamb with you. The Tabernacle is full of types that we will touch today.
The tabernacle was divided into three areas. The first section was called the “outer court” area. Another area was called the “Holy Place.” The third area was referred to as the “Most Holy Place” or “Holies of Holy.”
Prayer for the New Year sermon notes
Two pieces of furniture were in the outer court area.
There was the brazen altar at which animal sacrifices were made and blood was shed. The other piece of furniture was the laver bowl where the priests washed both themselves and specific pieces of the animal sacrifices.
This represents our being born again in the spiritual dimension. The brazen altar speaks of the cross where his blood was shed and the sacrifice of Jesus the Lamb of God. The laver bowl speaks of water baptism. These two experiences assure our ability to begin seeing the kingdom of God. We are not yet in the kingdom, but we are at that point able to see the kingdom. That may sound strange to some who have been taught that everything happens at one time. Someone said the only experience we need is to come to Jesus.
However, they press us to experience water baptism. God seldom did anything at one time or instantly. He took six days in creation. It took forty years to bring Israel to Canaan. He took all night to open the Red Sea. Jesus said the way it actually works was to first see the kingdom and then enter the kingdom.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
The purpose of being “born again” is so we can begin to see the kingdom of God. We can’t begin to see it until we are born again. We learn that there is more to salvation than being born again. There was more to the tabernacle of Moses than the outer court.
Jesus went on to say,
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
There is a seeing the kingdom of God and there is an entering the kingdom of God. In which dimension do you abide? In the born again dimension we are born of water shown by the brazen altar and laver bowl. We are water baptized into Christ’s death and raised into Christ’s life for a new life or a born-again life. Paul explained this.
Prayer for the New Year sermon notes
Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
We have been born again and can now walk in a newness of life after being born again. But there is much more. There was much after the Laver Bowl. Using the tabernacle as a gauge, we have only experienced two of the seven pieces of furniture. That is only 28.57 % if we do the math. There is much more after water baptism and the water birth into newness of life. The next level of the Tabernacle offers entrance into a spiritual birth.
There was the entrance to the holy place. Five pillars must be passed through to enter that area. Jesus gave five gifts at his ascension (Eph 4:8). These were the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher (Eph 4:11). We need all of these in our lives to enter the kingdom of God. Who is an apostle in my life? Who is a prophet in your life? Going on, who is an evangelist, a pastor, a teacher? We need these. That is why Jesus gave them.
However, he did not only give them to us to use. He also deposited these gifts into our lives for others to use. Each of us is given gifts that are founded and rooted in these five pillars. To enter the kingdom, we also must use our gifts. It’s all about ministering to people for God and ministering to God for people. It’s all about bringing people to God and God to people. The pillars provide us entrance into the Holy Place.
The light was natural in the outer court.
Things were seen in the natural in the outer court. The light was fire from oil in the holy place. Jesus came to baptize us with the Holy Ghost and fire (Mat 3:11; Luk 3:16). Things are not seen in the natural in the holy place. They are only seen in the firelight of the anointing of the Spirit of God. In the Holy Place was a golden lampstand. The light of the lampstand was fueled by oil. In the kingdom, we are fueled by the Spirit and not by the flesh. We see things in a different light. Things are illuminated by the Spirit of God in the kingdom.

Also, the Shewbread table is in the holy place. Bread and wine were on this table. Of course, this speaks of communion. The bread is the Lord’s body and the wine is the Lord’s blood of the New Covenant. In the holy place, communion is also observed in a new illumination. It’s no longer the laws of “thou shalt” and “thou shalt not.” It’s the law of the New Covenant. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give you.” That commandment is that we love one another. It’s the law of love and forgiveness in the holy place. Everything in the kingdom is based on love. It is based on the love of God and the love of people. Everything else about life hangs on loving those two entities.
There was one more piece of furniture in the holy place. It was the golden altar of incense. Incense was burned upon that altar. Ascending incense speaks of the prayers of the saints.
Revelation 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
Revelation 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
As we enter into the kingdom of God, we realize the need for the Spirit of God for truth and illumination. Without the Spirit, we remain in the natural. We enjoy a new insight into the covenant and blessings through communion in the kingdom. We pray in a different dimension in the kingdom. Prayer is seen differently. Prayer in this dimension is with authority using faith. We do not beg or even ask. It is speaking to situations and circumstances and commanding them to obey. Let me show you.
Mark 11:22-25
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Prayer for the New Year sermon notes
We can have what we ask, but there is one prerequisite. We must forgive. Forgiveness is a key to the kingdom of God. We can bind and lose and command and anoint with oil, but if we do not forgive then nothing happens. Jesus makes this very clear. We will continue to go around the same mountains year after year. Nothing will change until we forgive.
People battle with the same illnesses, the same marriage problems, the same financial problems, and the same job problems, year after year because they refuse to forgive. They go to church. They tithe, and they do a lot of things, but they refuse to forgive. Jesus said nothing will change if we do not forgive.
Kingdom prayer is not begging God. It is realizing that we are the children of God and that we are joint heirs with Jesus the firstborn among many brethren of which we are. However, it is always connected to forgiveness.
Things are more intense in the holy place. We live in a different illumination. We realize that covenant is more than going to church on Sunday. It’s living in love and forgiveness. We pray with authority in the name of Jesus. We are not only “seeing” others operate in the kingdom. Actually, we are now born of water and the Spirit. We are now in the kingdom.
What do you desire for next year?
Will anything change in your life? I thought a lot about that this week. Many will make “New Year Resolutions,” but nothing will be resolved. Most people will be the same at the end of next as they were at the end of this year. However, it doesn’t need to be that way for you. Things can change. You can speak to your mountain. You can move it. We all have something to which we need to speak.
How is your health?
How are your finances?
What about your family, marriage, children?
How is your job?
To what do you need to speak and command to be cast into the sea?
I noticed one special thing I had not noticed before in the passage in Revelation 8:4.
Revelation 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
It wasn’t the prayer of the saint as in singular. The prayers of the saints as in plural ascended up before God. We are about to combine our prayers symbolized by the lighting of individual candles, or lampstand. The Lord God loves it when our prayers ascend together. There is a special power when we come together and pray.
Prayer for the New Year sermon notes
We invite you to come and light a candle showing you are seeing things from a different dimension, the kingdom dimension. Pray if you want to pray. Speak to your mountain and begin the charge to move it. There will not be any ushers to tell you when to come and pray. You can come when and if you want. You can pray about anything you want, and you can pray as long as you want. The candles will remain burning after we have left. Our prayers will continue to ascend before God together.
