Shock Advised sermon notes. So, my EMT friend Daryl brought out a defibrillator. Basically, two wires come from the defibrillator with two pads at the end of the wires, which are stuck, on either side of the heart. Firstly, the shocker begins analyzing and evaluating the condition of the heart. Accordingly, if no heartbeat is detected it says, “Shock advised.” Also accordingly, we know the Lord looks on the heart (1Sa 16:7) and He evaluates the condition of the heart. In fact, the Lord recognizes the necessity of getting a heart back in rhythm. It could be ‘Shock advised.’

Learn to analyze the heart
We are told the Lord looks on the heart. Also, we are instructed to keep the heart and the NIV says, guard the heart. The word translated as keep in the Hebrew (natsar) means to guard and maintain. Accordingly, it is not enough to guard the heart. Also, the heart must be maintained because over the years the natural heart can develop problems if not maintained. Certainly, clogged arteries, murmuring valves, stress, etc. can cause the heart to skip, leak, or stop beating.
Proverbs 15:13 says that a merry heart affects our attitude toward life. Sorrow, or a sad heart, affects our attitude toward life also. We experience a broken life. We go through life with a bad attitude.
Proverbs 17:22 tells us that our heart affects our health. A merry spiritual heart is like a medicine. It gives medication to life and makes life fun. A broken spirit affects us physically also. It dries the bones.
The Lord was sent to heal the brokenhearted. Today will be our last of four messages on the Issues of the Heart. I want to talk about recognizing when the Lord is ministering to a heart that has not been guarded and maintained. How does he minister to people to get their spiritual heart back in rhythm when it is skipping or in fibrillation? Let’s talk about how the Lord will minister to a heart in really bad condition.
Allow me to use an example of a man deeply entrenched in pornography. His thoughts have been affected. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Pro 23:7). His thoughts are in his heart. It has become an issue with him. Issues come from the heart (Pro 4:23). He is not fulfilling the will of God. His destiny is affected. Our destiny is in our hearts (Act 13:22). He has begun to look at his daughter and the neighbor’s daughters in an inappropriate manner. What would the Lord do with the heart in spiritual fibrillation?

Arrive on the scene
Daryl Camp, a member at our church, is an EMT in the county I live. He was good enough to help me with this message. Daryl brought a heart shocker to the service to help me show the situation he would face in a natural cardiac arrest situation.
When Daryl arrives on the scene, he is not concerned with what type of car the person drives or how large of a house they live in. He doesn’t ask where the person bought the Tommy Hillfigger shirt or where they went to college. There is only one question. Is the heart beating? If not, time becomes a factor. The quicker the heart can be restarted, the less damage will be done to the brain. If the heart is in fibrillation, in a short time much damage will be done to the brain. Fibrillation is rapid ineffective beating of the heart. The heart appears to be quivering and no blood is pumped to the brain. It must be started and put back on rhythm. If this does not happen, the destiny will terminate prematurely. The issue is death. The brain will flatline and stop functioning shortly.
It is this way in the spiritual also. We adjust the way we minister to certain people by the wealth they possess or by the social level they exist. However, the Lord is not that way. He is no respecter or persons. He will minister to everyone the same. His desire is to get the heart back in rhythm. The Lord wants the life-giving substance pumped. He wants destiny back in rhythm. He wants the issues back in rhythm. Moreover, He wants the thoughts back in rhythm.
First shock
It’s at this point that my EMT friend Daryl will bring out the shocker. Two wires come from the defibrillator with two pads at the end of the wires, which are stuck, on either side of the heart. The shocker begins analyzing and evaluating the condition of the heart. If no heartbeat is detected it says, “Shock advised.”

We know the Lord looks on the heart (1Sa 16:7) and He evaluates the condition of the heart. Specifically, the Lord recognizes the necessity of getting that heart back in rhythm. Also, mind damage will result from the longer the heart is damaged. To be sure the person is experiencing hurt, the heart is hardening, anger, bitterness, and un-forgiveness are killing them. Their mind is disabled. They cannot function. The heart is in spiritual fibrillation. It must be started. When the heart is in bad shape the Lord will shock the heart. When the machine is told to shock the heart it says, “Stand clear.” It then creates a charge of two hundred watts and executes that charge through the chest cavity attempting to get the heart back on its proper rhythm.
It is not a pretty sight when the shock is released. The entire body will convulse. The entire system is shocked, not only the heart.
When a person experiences a shock by the Lord, “Stand clear.” Their entire body and system will be shocked. It’s not pretty. Their entire life is jolted. Their family is jolted and their place of employment is jolted. If we do not stand clear, the shock will hit us too. Our entire system can be jolted. This does not mean we are not there for them after the shock. However, we must recognize the Lord is administering a shock.
Some may argue and say the Lord would not shock a person.
They have no problem believing the devil would do it. Well, let’s think for a minute. Would the Lord want to shock a man to stop the effects of pornography, or would the devil? Would the Lord want to shock a marriage so it would remain together, or would the devil want the marriage to remain together?

Second shock
The shocker will again analyze. If the heart has responded and is beating, no further shock is necessary. If the heart is not beating, it repeats the process, only this time the charge is increased to three hundred watts.
Some people can be restarted by a light shock such as realizing that unjust expectations have been unjustly demanded. Others will require greater shocks. These may require a child to be arrested before they decide they need to spend time with their child. Some may need a spouse to separate. “Stand clear!” Have you ever been around someone who was shocked back into reality? It can be dangerous. “Stand clear!” Just when we think it could not get any worse than this, “WHAM!”
Third shock
It analyzes again. If no heartbeat is detected, it increases the charge to three hundred watts. A larger shock is on the way. “Stand clear!”
My EMT friend is not finished simply because he has gotten the heart beating. It is his job to get the person to the hospital. At the hospital, a heart specialist, i.e. cardiologist will help the person.
Our job in the spiritual is to get the person to a place where they can be helped. The New Testament hospital is the church. I personally am not big on “counseling.” However, I am big on relationships, body ministry, and love. Also, I am not really big on telling everyone my heartbreaks. However, I am big on telling my heartbreaks to Jesus. It was Jesus who said,
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Shock Advised sermon notes
Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
People must get in church and have a relationship with Jesus Christ if they are going to recover from their broken hearts. Our job is not done until we get the person to Jesus. Who do you know that has a broken heart? If the situation becomes bad recognize that a shock is on the way. “Stand clear.” Let’s get them to Jesus so they can be healed. (A great time to invite people to join the church to help provide a hospital to heal people.
