We are in our series titled I WANT TO LEAVE SOMETHING HERE! The Lord desires we not only have an abundant full life now but to also make a difference while we are here in this life. A successful life will LEAVE SOMETHING HERE that matters. Jesus referred to this “LEAVING SOMETHING HERE” as a fruit bringing you joy now and a fruit that will remain when you are gone.
[John 15:16] Ye have not chosen me, but I HAVE CHOSEN YOU, AND ORDAINED YOU, THAT ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that YOUR FRUIT SHOULD REMAIN: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
The Lord chose and saved us not only from something but also for something. God has ordained us to produce something now and something that remains. In other words, he has given us special powers and abilities to accomplish special things. The Greek word translated remain is meno (Strong’s #3306) and means to stay. There is the eternal life we will have, but we are also to leave something eternal. Let’s look at this same verse from the NIV.
(NIV) [John 15:16] You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – FRUIT THAT WILL LAST. THEN THE FATHER WILL GIVE YOU WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME.
It is interesting Jesus directly relates Father’s response to our request to our producing fruit that will last. Jesus said if we ask in his name in association with LEAVING SOMETHING HERE it would happen – Father will give you whatever you ask. Often when prayers are not answered, it is because we are not pursuing what we are ordained and appointed to do. Jesus said you should have confidence when it comes to asking something from Father concerning LEAVING SOMETHING THAT REMAINS.
We have been talking about some things we need to do if we are going TO LEAVE SOMETHING HERE. Today I want to talk about CHANGING FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
One reason we do not accomplish our short-term goals and move toward our life’s goals is because of our external projections. Many people have bad motives and bad attitudes. They go through life with smart mouths, chips on their shoulders, sticking their noses into other people’s affairs always causing problems, running with and listening to the wrong people, no clear vision, etc. Every time they get a break and seem to be getting ahead, their attitudes show up and they have to pick themselves up off the bottom again. A negative external projection will certainly stop us from LEAVING SOMETHING HERE.
God wants to change this and there are certain things about all of us needing change to maximize our potential.

I think it is wonderful how it is now possible to help a person have the appearance they desire. I have enjoyed the program and have watched some physically challenged people receive a needed “lift” in life. Also, I have been touched to tears when someone experiences a correction that truly helps them. However, I always wonder what happened to them 6 months later. How many of them truly changed? Without some inward change, the extreme makeover was only extremely temporary.
What I am getting to is this is what the Holy Spirit desires to do for us in the spiritual. He desires to give us an “Extreme Makeover,” but one that remains. It shows externally, but the Holy Spirit’s work is to cause us to CHANGE FROM THE INSIDE OUT. When the Holy Spirit works, it is extreme. Let’s talk about a few of the extreme makeovers the Holy Spirit will do while helping us to LEAVE SOMETHING HERE.
TONGUE IMPLANT
Let’s begin with a tongue implant. Some people have the ugliest most deformed tongues and God wants to cut the ugly tongue out.
[Proverbs 10:31] The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be CUT OUT.
Have you ever met someone who needed a tongue implant? Their tongue constantly caused them trouble. Every time they seemed to get ahead, their tongue would be seen and destroy their lives.
[James 3:6] The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, SETS THE WHOLE COURSE OF HIS LIFE ON FIRE, and is itself set on fire by hell.
If we are going to LEAVE SOMETHING HERE, we have to allow the Lord to change our tongues. I hope we all know I am not literally talking about cutting out a person’s tongue. I am doing what Jesus did when he talked about CHANGING FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
[Matthew 5:29, 30] If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away… And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Of course, Jesus was not talking about literally gouging out eyes and cutting off hands. He was talking about the extreme makeover the Holy Spirit will do and it must come from THE INSIDE OUT. God wants us to have successful lives that LEAVE SOMETHING HERE. For many, it will require a new tongue.
[1 Peter 3:10] For, “Whoever would love life and SEE GOOD DAYS MUST keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.”
If we are going to see good days, we MUST allow our tongues to CHANGE FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
[Proverbs 21:23] He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.
(NLT) [Proverbs 21:23] If you keep your mouth shut, you will stay out of trouble.
Do not allow your tongue to stop you from leaving something here that matters. Let’s look at one more thing about the changed tongue.
[Mark 11:23] I tell you the truth, if anyone SAYS to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Jesus used his tongue to speak to things. In fact, prayer includes speaking “to” your mountains. Jesus spoke to trees, the wind, waves, ears, eyes, spirits, etc. To what are you speaking? There is a power in the changed tongue to bring you the life you want.
[Proverbs 18:21] The tongue has the POWER OF LIFE and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
We could keep talking about the tongue, but you get the idea. Let’s look at another part of the Holy Spirit’s “extreme makeover.”
NOSE JOB:
Have you ever met a “nosy” person? I often wonder where terms like “nosy person” began. It had to be associating a person’s ability to smell out gossip with a hound dog’s ability to smell out a trail. Nosy people are busybodies and they need a “nose job.”
[1 Thessalonians 4:11-12] Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, TO MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
A nosy person becomes so interested in the affairs of others that they cannot take care of their own. If we are going to be successful people, we must focus on our own business and leave others alone. People do not respect “nosy” people. Therefore, they are not successful.
[2 Thessalonians 3:11-12] Yet we hear that some of you are LIVING IDLE LIVES, REFUSING TO WORK AND WASTING TIME MEDDLING IN OTHER PEOPLE’S BUSINESS. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we appeal to such people – no, we command them: Settle down and get to work. Earn your own living.
We waste our own lives when we are nosy. Nosy people are always involved in quarrels, keeping people stirred up, and making people angry all the time.
[Proverbs 26:17] Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.
If you really want people to be angry with you and dislike you, meddle in their business. It is a sure way to fail. If some people are going to LEAVE SOMETHING HERE, they must receive a nose job by the Holy Spirit. It requires CHANGE FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
EAR AUGMENTATION:
[Matthew 13:15] For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears…
Do you know anyone who refuses to listen and is constantly failing at life? They are like rebellious children constantly needing discipline and never finding success.
[Proverbs 1:8-9] LISTEN, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
In other words, you will have a decorated and beautiful life if you listen to the correct instructions.
[Proverbs 16:20] Whoever gives heed to instruction PROSPERS, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
Jesus was constantly telling people to be cautious as to what they would listen to.
[Mark 4:24] “Consider carefully WHAT YOU HEAR,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you – and even more.”
“With the measure you use” of what? The measure we listen. What we hear greatly determines what we are able to accomplish and leave here. Listening is directly related to success – two ears, one mouth. If we listen to the wrong people, wrong teachings, wrong friends, etc. we will not receive the measure of life God wants us to have. The Lord not only told us to be cautious about what we hear but also about how we hear.
[Luke 8:18] Therefore consider carefully HOW YOU LISTEN. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.”
Jesus said, “Whoever has” what will be given more? Whoever has the ability to hear correctly. I have seen people with preconceived ideas and opinions totally miss the truth capable of changing their lives. Even what he thinks he has will be taken from him. Have objective ears capable of hearing and receiving wise teaching, instructions, and directions.
[Proverbs 13:13] He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded.
We need to have ear augmentations by the Holy Spirit and learn to listen to the Spirit of God. I was getting a haircut this week. The person cutting told me about her son who had been asking why do God and angels not appear and talk to people today as they did in the Bible. I gave her my take on angels not simply meaning angelic beings with wings, but rather messengers and every church has at least one (Rev 2:8, 12, etc.). I told her the Bible usually refers to them as men (Gen 18:2), fellow servants, brethren, and having a testimony (Rev 19:10) which angelic “creatures” do not need. Anyway, I told her God does appear and speak today through messengers. I hear him and see him every day, but then I have eyes to see and ears to hear.
[Revelation 2:7] HE WHO HAS AN EAR, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.
Hearing ears directly attach us to the tree of life. The abundant life and a life that will SOMETHING HERE must hear well.
LASIK EYE SURGERY:
[Matthew 6:22-23] The eye is the lamp of the body. IF YOUR EYES ARE GOOD, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Blurred vision, cataracts, poor vision, blindness, etc. greatly hinder us from going where we want to go in the natural. It is even more destructive in the spiritual. Jesus was talking about vision. When the vision is good, the whole life is good.
[Matthew 15:14] Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Speaking of the Pharisees, Jesus said, “Leave them.” Do not follow people who have no vision. It is a ditch waiting to happen. We need the Spirit to perform Lasik eye surgery for us in our extreme makeover.
[Proverbs 4:25] LET YOUR EYES LOOK STRAIGHT AHEAD, fix your gaze directly before you.
Do you know where you are going in life? Is it clear, or blurred, or are you blinded to it? Don’t fall in a ditch. The Holy Spirit wants to CHANGE YOU FROM THE INSIDE OUT so you will inherit all God has for you.
[Ephesians 1:18] The EYES OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints
God wants you to understand life. Get around people, and follow people who have some understanding. The Lord has an inheritance for each of us, but to acquire it we need our eyes CHANGED FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
I think we have time to talk about one more thing an extreme makeover by the Holy Spirit must include.
CHEST ENHANCEMENT:
I said it this way to keep your interest. We all know I am not going to talk about what you are thinking. However, there is a part within our chests that must experience CHANGE FROM THE INSIDE OUT. This part is the heart.
[Ezekiel 36:26] I will give you a NEW HEART and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
One day Jesus was in a dispute with religious people about his disciples not ceremonially washing their hands.
[Mark 7:20-23] And then he added, “It is the thought-life that defiles you. For from within, OUT OF A PERSON’S HEART, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, eagerness for lustful pleasure, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things COME FROM WITHIN; they are what defile you and make you unacceptable to God.”
Our hearts keep us from getting God’s best. Thoughts capable of destroying and stopping us from LEAVING SOMETHING HERE come from the old heart. Sin has deformed it, distorted it, warped it, and made it ugly even to God. By CHANGING THE HEART FROM THE INSIDE OUT, our lives change because our thoughts change. This is a serious extreme makeover.
What is it within you God is working on right now? Let him work. This is what the kingdom of God is all about – CHANGING US FROM THE INSIDE OUT. The Pharisees demanded to know when the kingdom of God was coming. If Jesus was the Christ then he would know when the kingdom would come.
[Luke 17:20, 21] And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is WITHIN YOU.
They wanted the kingdom to come and change them externally. Jesus said it does not work this way. The kingdom is internal and wants to CHANGE US FROM THE INSIDE OUT. This is an extreme makeover. If we allow it, we will LEAVE SOMETHING HERE!
