In your future, as you glean up your rows of life, God already has waiting for you handfuls on purpose – handfuls of good stuff, handfuls of promotions, handfuls of healing, handfuls of wisdom, handfuls of opportunities, handfuls of divine connections. Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls On Purpose

Psalms 37:4-5; Ruth 1:16-17, Ruth 2:2, 10, 11, 16; Ruth 4:13; Deuteronomy 1:11; Ruth 4:16-17

I want to talk today about how God has ALREADY released good things into your future.

Psalms 37:4-5 DELIGHT YOURSELF in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. COMMIT YOUR WAY to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this

When we enjoy the Lord and the things of the Lord, he makes things happen for us. That means he has ALREADY lined up the right circumstances, the right people, and the right breaks. In your future, God has ALREADY released divine connections, supernatural opportunities, and favor to come across your path as long as you enjoy/delight yourself and commit your ways to the Lord. You will look around and wonder how your great life happened because you were not the most qualified, but you got the promotion. Maybe, you didn’t deserve that break, but people went out of their way to help you. There will even be times when you thought you messed up only to find your blessing came because you messed up. God’s favor was ALREADY lined up. It’s called Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose.

I look at so many things in my life and think, how in the world did that happen? I think about my wife and my children. I’m like David Ring who said, “I didn’t deserve her, but God doesn’t give you what you deserve.” I think about several of you. You have been faithful to God. You were in the background of your occupation. Now, you are in the foreground of management. How did that happen? It’s the favor of God. He had it ALREADY lined up for you.

I want you to know God has already released his FAVOR IN YOUR FUTURE.

You don’t have to worry. You don’t have to “make it happen.” All you need to do is remain faithful, delight yourself in the Lord, commit your way, and you will seemingly stumble into the desires of your heart. It’s simply Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose.

We have talked about Ruth in the Bible. There is so much symbolism in this story (Ruth/Christ follower, Naomi/”pleasant” person leading someone to Christ, Bethlehem/new birth, Boaz/Christ, Moab/Idolatry, etc.) Ruth was a Moabite woman who married a Jewish man in Moab, but her husband died.

It was Ruth speaking to her mother-in-law, Naomi, who said,

Ruth 1:16-17 …Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and YOUR GOD MY GOD. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried…

This is a type of Christ follower leaving idol worship (Moab), moving to a new birth in Christ (Bethlehem), and delighting and committing to the Lord.

With no income for Ruth and Naomi, Ruth goes to the fields to glean grain left over from the harvest. This is a type of a person coming to God, but only gleaning leftovers in life.

Ruth 2:2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I FIND FAVOR.” Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” It was Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose.

Ruth expected to find favor. From whom, she didn’t know. Expecting favor is releasing hope, which produces faith. Watch what happened when Ruth expected favor. On Ruth’s very first day in the field, the owner of the field, a very wealthy, good, and respected man named Boaz (type of Christ), “seemingly happened” to come to the field. He took notice of Ruth and was told who she was. He introduced himself and then told Ruth she was welcome and protected in his fields.

Ruth 2:10-11 At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground. She exclaimed, “Why have I FOUND SUCH FAVOR IN YOUR EYES that you notice me – a foreigner?”

When you stumble into one of your “favor moments,” people seem to go out of their way to help you. They don’t know why they are doing it. The reason is God’s moving and you stumbled into a “favor moment” where God ALREADY released FAVOR INTO YOUR FUTURE. This is It’s Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose. Boaz told his harvesters…

Ruth 2:16 And let fall also some of the HANDFULS OF PURPOSE FOR HER, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.

Better yet, pull some of the good stuff out and leave it for her to glean. Give her special treatment.” (Ruth 2:16 Message Bible)

Ruth 2:16 And pull out some heads of barley from the bundles and DROP THEM ON PURPOSE FOR HER. Let her pick them up, and don’t give her a hard time!” (NLT)

It’s already there for us. Now it’s simply Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose. That’s what I am telling you today. God has ALREADY left you HANDFULS ON PURPOSE in your future. Handfuls on purpose are out in front of you waiting for you to arrive. It’s simply Finding God’s Favor – Handfuls on Purpose

Get the picture. Ruth was searching the field finding a little over there and a little over here. Then she walked into an area where there were handfuls piled up laying there waiting for her. Ruth was simply Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose.

You don’t know all God has out ahead for you. Don’t believe the media about how nothing but bad will happen. Say, “I’m not going to participate in the recession.” Don’t believe the enemy saying there’s nothing but doom and gloom coming for you. No. Instead of being fearful, be excited about your future. DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD AND THERE WILL BE HANDFULS ON PURPOSE FOR YOU.

What others had to work and buy, Ruth received free.

Even the workers could not have the wheat free. They had to harvest it and then leave it for Ruth right in her path. Ruth received supernatural blessings. It’s simply Finding God’s Favor, Handfuls on Purpose.

Ruth was content living with Naomi and going out every day to pick up her blessings, but God had more handfuls on purpose of favor for Ruth. Many times we settle with a little when we could have so much more. Ruth and Boaz fell in love and married (Bride of Christ).

Ruth 4:13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.

Ruth was no longer the woman following the harvesters gleaning wheat and barley. She was the owner’s wife. Collecting her blessings was fine, but the Lord had a handful on purpose that put her over the top. It’s that way for some of you. God does not only want you working for the company. God might want you to own the company, or begin your own company. The Lord doesn’t want you living in a small apartment for the rest of your life. He wants you to have a nice home.

It’s great to be appreciative of what God has done, but God is a progressive God. He wants to take you places you never dreamed of. Don’t be complacent, or too easily satisfied. Delight yourself in the Lord and anticipate your next handful on purpose. Ask for and expect favor. When you find it, stay in that row, for up ahead will be more HANDFULS ON PURPOSE.

God wants you to go further. It was good for Ruth to pick up her blessings, but God had way more for her. Don’t get stagnant in life. Don’t say, “Well, this is all my parents had, so this is all I will have.” No. God wants to take you to a new level and set a new standard for your family. God wants you to increase a thousand times more than your parents.

Deuteronomy 1:11 May the LORD, the God of your fathers, INCREASE YOU A THOUSAND TIMES and bless you as he has promised!

That’s God’s dream for every one of us. He desires you to increase and increase and increase a thousand times even beyond your fathers. Judy and I haven’t increased monetarily “a thousand times” yet beyond our immediate parents, but we may have from our grandparents and great-grandparents. God wants you to increase. GOD IS CRAZY ABOUT YOU AND WANTS YOU TO DO WELL.

Don’t live in a woe-is-me mentality. Live expecting the next handful on purpose. Your next handful on purpose could be the husband or wife of your dreams. Or, your next handful on purpose could be the idea to create something big or begin a business. Maybe your next handful on purpose could be that promotion you didn’t think you would ever get. God wants to increase you a thousand times more.

Thinking about Ruth, she was from Moab. They didn’t worship our God in Moab, but Ruth met our God and Ruth began a godly lineage.

Ruth 4:16-17 … And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Ruth was the great-grandmother of King David and ancestor of Jesus Christ. My point is the favor of God and the handfuls on purpose you walk in today will affect and bring blessings to your lineage after you. God has it ALREADY planned out. Today is Palm Sunday. We can easily link Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, every Sunday, to God’s favor upon Ruth and God’s favor upon you and me. One day we walked into a HANDFUL ON PURPOSE God ALREADY had waiting for us.

I believe that some of you are about to stumble into your HANDFULS ON PURPOSE. You’ve given. You’ve been faithful. You delight yourself in the Lord. You really enjoy church, worship, and your relationship with God. Don’t be fearful of the future. Be excited about the future. There’s a promotion, an opportunity, a connection, an idea ahead of you. When you understand this principle, it changes your life. Every day, anticipate the next HANDFUL ON PURPOSE. It could be today. It could be tomorrow or next week, but God’s ALREADY laid it there waiting for you.

I speak it over you right now. There will be new seasons of increase. I declare over you a new favor. Also, I speak handfuls of strength, health, wisdom, prosperity, creativity, and divine connections. Moreover, I declare it in the name of Jesus.
