Often times we have a misconception of the kingdom of God. We think the kingdom is a place where there are no battles and everything is perfect and exactly the way we want it. This just isn’t true. We must arise in violence in the kingdom. We are overthrowing the kingdom of darkness, and we must have an attitude of spiritual aggressiveness required to POSSESS THE KINGDOM.

The fall of Jericho is a lesson in the obedience necessary to take the Jerichos of our lives, but it’s more than that. Also, it’s a lesson in the prophetic. As a matter of fact the Hebrew word translated Jericho is Yeriychow meaning fragrant. As an illustration how many of us would like to capture the fragrance of life? How about the fragrance of health or the aroma of prosperity and how about the smell of a new car or truck? Of course, life is full of the wonderful fragrance of the abundant life. What is the principle the Lord would want us to grasp from Achan’s actions? There are some things we cannot touch, take, participate in, or be around. There are some things we must separate from our stuff and see as the Lord’s stuff. If we will keep the Lord’s stuff separated from our stuff, we will win battles.

It’s interesting the battle was not to be fought at Ai or in the city itself. It was to be fought in a different location. The principle is we cannot expect to have victory over our bondages, addictions, weaknesses, etc. when they (the enemies) determine the place we war. For example, it is very difficult to have a financial problem and expect to defeat it by test-driving new cars. It’s very difficult to overcome sexual addictions by looking at pornography. Also, it’s difficult, if not impossible, to overcome alcoholism by frequenting bars.

I relate to the Gibeonites in I don’t want to live a destroyed and devoured life like others around me live. We come to the Lord and when we come we bring all our deceitful ways with us. None of us came to the Lord all clean and pure and for that fact none of us are all clean and pure now. How many are happy the Lord made a covenant with us even though we were carrying around some cracked wine skins, moldy bread, and worn-out sandals of deceit? Aren’t you glad God wants to REDEEM THE GIBEONITE IN US? It’s in Joshua the Book.
Hamstring the Horses – sermon video audio notes
In this battle, Joshua was told to focus on the horses and chariots before he focused on the actual warriors. The children of God were to go for the horses first. As a horse-drawn chariot passed, the children of God were to Hamstring The Horses. The tendon and muscles in the back of the thigh were severed crippling the horse and removing its ability to maneuver well. By doing this, the enemy lost its ability to maneuver. Sometimes, we are not to attack the obvious, but rather immobilize the enemy. There are things in our lives that need to be hamstrung. Hamstring The Horses? It’s in Joshua the Book.
