The red white, and blue signifies we have the privilege of living in the greatest nation ever existing. It thrives giving  life, liberty, and happiness.

Life, Liberty, and Happiness

Scriptures: John 10:10, John 4:10, Galatians 5:18, Luke 4:18, Luke 4:19, 1 Peter 1:8, Luke 24:41, Luke 24:42, Luke 24:43-45

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” (1)

THE FOUNDING OF THE GREATEST NATION THAT HAS EVER EXISTED is established upon three fundamental pursuits – LIFE, LIBERTY, and HAPPINESS (Joy). Without the acknowledged right to publically pursue these three fundamental elements, the United States of America is no different from any other nation. Without them we would be bound by oppression, dictatorship, and fear. With them, we experience a level of freedom and prosperity unlike any other nation upon this earth.

AREN’T YOU HAPPY THAT THIS IS A FREE NATION? We have the freedom to color our hair any color we wish. There was a guy who asked this blond if he could tell her a blond joke. She said, “Well, before you do, you need to know that I am the world champion women’s boxer.” She continued saying, “You need to know that my friend here, who is blond, is the world champion women’s wrestler. You need to know that my other friend here, who is also blond, is the world champion women’s kick-box champion.” Then she asked, “Do you still want to tell your blond joke?” He thought a minute and then said, “No. Not if I will need to explain it three times.”

AMERICA HAS BECOME SYNONYMOUS WITH LIFE, LIBERTY, AND HAPPINESS. People from all over the world desire to come and live in America. They want to raise their families here. They want to become an American. People risk their lives to get to America. Why? They are seeking Life, Liberty, and Happiness.

Life, Liberty, and Happiness have come at great cost and should be celebrated with great exuberance. Today begins the week of the 4th of July. Friday will be the 4th. We should celebrate with enthusiasm. Nothing would make those who have given their lives for this nation happier. We should express how thankful we are for the Life, Liberty, and Happiness we enjoy.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT LIFE, LIBERTY, AND HAPPINESS in connection with Christianity. Should not Christianity be synoptic with Life, Liberty, and Happiness even more so than America? Is it? Let’s talk a few minutes about what the Bible says about Life, Liberty, and Happiness.

LIFE – What is real life? The world sees life being the satisfaction of appetites – greed, control, excess in alcohol, sex, drugs, etc. Those things don’t bring life. They bring worry and disease and death and destruction. Jesus said,

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have LIFE, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The apex of Life should be Christianity. There is a woman spoken of in the Bible who had sought life in all the wrong places. We are never told her name. She is referred to as the woman at the well. She had spent her entire life looking for life and love. One day she met Jesus at a well. Jesus asked her for a drink of natural water. We need natural things, but there is more. Here is what Jesus said to her.

John 4:10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you LIVING water.”

Jesus will give us life in LIVING WATER if we but ask. This isn’t life for after we die. This is abundant life for now. It’s Life at its peak! It’s Life at it best!

Somehow the church has not properly shown that Jesus came to give us abundant life for now. What is it that you need abundant life in? Your health? Your family? Your finances? Your job? Jesus has water that will quench that thirst so you will never thirst again. He has life and that abundantly to give anyone who will ask.

LIBERTY  Liberty is at the center of Life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of Happiness. What isLiberty? Liberty is the apex of freedom! When we have liberty, we have freedom at it’s best. Christianity is Liberty. I fear the church has made Christianity to be laws and legalism. That is not true.

Galatians 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

Jesus set us free from the Old Testament law so we could be led by the Spirit of God into Liberty.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at LIBERTY them that are bruised,

Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

What is it that is bruising your life? Jesus came to show you how to stop it.

True LIBERTY comes through the Spirit of God.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there isLIBERTY.

Paul and Silas found themselves in a prison bruised and beaten, but they found Liberty. They began praising Jesus. God sent an earthquake to bring them Liberty. Shadrak, Meshak, and Abendigo were thrown into a fiery furnace because they would not bow to an idol. They found liberty because that was where the Spirit of the Lord was residing. Daniel was thrown into a lion’s den, but had liberty because that was where the Spirit of the Lord resided. What is it that is trying to stop your liberty? Begin praising Jesus like Paul and Silas. Don’t bow to the world’s idols like Shadrak, Meshak, and Abendigo. Pray like Daniel and God will shut the mouth of that thing trying to take your liberty. The peak of Liberty is in true Christianity.

HAPPINESS – The Biblical word for happiness is JoyJoy is ecstasy of life. There is a drug today called ‘ecstasy,’ but at most it can only provide a few hours of joy. The Joy provided by the Lord will last a lifetime. The Joy that the Lord provides is indescribable.

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with JOY unspeakable and full of glory:

It truly is difficult to describe the joy a Christ follower experiences. I would have difficulty attempting to describe the joy I have experienced. There is joy of my family. There is joy of my friends. Sometimes I have difficulty in believing all the things the Bible says. However, the Bible tells us his disciples had trouble. But because of their JOY they knew of life they knew it was true. Here is what the Bible says.

Luke 24:41 And while they still did not believe it because of JOY and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

Luke 24:42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,

Luke 24:43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

Luke 24:44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

When we have true Joy and spend time with Jesus, our minds open. We are more open minded than before we met Jesus. We understand things.

The Joy of the Lord is indescribable. Some of us need some real Joy and happiness. You are supposed to be able to find it in church and you will in a church where Jesus has opened the minds of the people. Where do you need Joy and happiness today? Jesus is the answer.

Life, Liberty, and Happiness are the keys to this great nation. I love America. Life, Liberty, and Happiness are not only foundational for America. It’s foundational for a Christ follower. I promise you that if you are a Christ follower, you will have Life, Liberty, and true Happiness.
