You Must Be Born Again. How could Nicodemus be born again before Jesus died, i.e. before the cross, i.e. before it was possible to be born again in Jesus Christ? Nicodemus was a very Scriptural person. He was very conservative. We would see him today as a very knowledgeable, religious teacher/preacher. Nicodemus didn’t understand what Jesus meant about being born again much as many today don’t understand what Jesus meant.
God’s not into fixing our first birth. He is about giving us a rebirth.
What died in Adam on the day Adam ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was Adam’s desire to have fellowship with God. Instead of wanting to walk with God and fellowship with God, Adam hid from God.
Adam saw he was naked. Adam began looking at himself. “I’ve got to cover myself.”
Three things took place when man sinned.
- He looked at himself.
- He hid from God.
- Blamed others.
The woman did it. The man did it. The snake did it. We must come to a place where we know no one is to blame but me.
To be born again we must come to a place where we stop looking at ourselves and desire to spend time with God. Also, we cannot blame others. Before we ever see or enter the kingdom of God we must commune with God. It’s not like we have to. It’s we want to.

2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?”
5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
