Ephesians 5:18-20 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always GIVING THANKS TO GOD THE FATHER FOR EVERYTHING, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The single greatest act of worship any person can give is thanksgiving. It’s not coming to church, as great an act of worship as coming to church is. It’s not hearing or preaching a great sermon. And, it’s not giving our tithes, offerings, and alms as worshipful as those are. The highest, best, greatest, and ultimate act of worship is to have a thankful heart for everything. The reason is thanksgiving to God reduces and sacrifices self. Thanksgiving recognizes God as the giver of everything.
Here is what I’ll be talking about today and for the next few weeks in It’s Nor Right: True Thanksgiving honors God in the good and the difficult. Giving thanks sees beyond the pain and the trouble. Giving thanks sees all things working together for good. Thanksgiving sees the hand of God in everything. Thanksgiving thanks God even for the hard times even when It’s Not Right.
(KJV) Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
What happened to Job was not right. His children died. He lost all his wealth and savings. He had a hideous disease. All he had left was a revolting wife to torment him. There was no reason for any of this and God never told Job why it happened. What we will see is though we say, “It’s not right” when bad things happen, it is right. A true spirit-filled Christ follower thanks god for everything.
Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks to God the Father FOR EVERYTHING, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
What does everything mean? It means everything. It means the bad times as well as the good, the difficult times as well as the easy. Thanksgiving is how we always should enter the presence of God.
Psalms 100:4 ENTER HIS GATES WITH THANKSGIVING and his courts with praise; GIVE THANKS to him and praise his name.
The single greatest act of worship anyone can offer to God is to be thankful. Every time we come into God’s presence, we should bring thanksgiving. Having a thankful heart is the greatest offering you can give God. Thanking God even for the bad is acknowledging God is indeed God and my recognizing bad times are intended to conform me to the likeness of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
Everything God does is for your benefit. Sometimes it’s a blessing and sometimes it’s a trial. The way we bring glory to God is by giving thanksgiving no matter what the problem.
2 Corinthians 9:11 You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
Paul talked about how our giving financially makes us rich in every way. As we give, it causes thanksgiving to God. The ultimate purpose even in our giving is to bring others to a place of giving thanksgiving to God.

When are we to give thanks to God? The answer is always. But Delbert, you don’t know my problem. It still says always. You don’t know my wife. It still says always. You don’t know my children. It still says always. You don’t know how sick I am. It still says always. Why? This shows you recognize God is in control of your life, not the devil.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, FOR THIS IS GOD’S WILL FOR YOU in Christ Jesus.
In all circumstances? You’re kidding, right? No. We gripe and complain when God is doing a work in our lives.
James 1:2-3 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance for what? For want is coming in your future. Everything God allows in our lives is for our good. We don’t understand, but God does.
