Give Me My Mountain exemplifies Caleb’s unwavering faith and determination in claiming his God-given inheritance. At 85 years old, Caleb approached Joshua, requesting the mountain promised to him 45 years earlier. This powerful narrative illustrates the importance of following God wholeheartedly, maintaining a positive outlook, and persevering in pursuit of one’s divine destiny. Caleb’s bold request demonstrates his confidence in God’s promises and his readiness to face challenges, even in his advanced age. The sermon emphasizes that each person has a “mountain” – a purpose or calling – to possess, and encourages believers to identify and pursue their God-given goals with the same vigor and faith as Caleb. It underscores the significance of choosing to serve God fully and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

We are in our series on POSSESSING THE KINGDOM. It’s from the Book of Joshua. Jesus told us the kingdom of God is to be entered now.
Luke 16:16 The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
Our series has been about doing just this—POSSESSING THE KINGDOM and forcing our way into it. We have been using the book of Joshua to help us learn the principles, and today’s lesson is titled “GIVE ME MY MOUNTAIN.“
The children of Israel forced their way in and brought the kingdom of God to their Promised Land. When one kingdom comes, another kingdom is removed. Jesus said, pray thy kingdom come, thy will be done. He was talking about removing kingdoms hindering the advancement of the kingdom of God. King and kingdom after king and kingdom were removed and replaced by the kingdom of God.

Joshua 12:24 …In all, thirty-one kings and their cities were destroyed.
There were no less than 31 victories. God wants his people to be victorious! God wants you to have victory after victory after victory. This is exactly what happens when we do life his way. You can’t lose.
The people of God had been very successful. However, after the removal of the thirty-one kings, enemy strongholds remained. So Joshua decided to divide the land and let the tribes drive out the enemies in their respective territories, but he warned them about the remnants remaining.
Joshua 23:12 Else if ye do in any wise go back, and CLEAVE unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make MARRIAGES with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:
Joshua 23:13 KNOW FOR A CERTAINTY that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be SNARES and TRAPS unto you, and SCOURGES in your sides, and THORNS in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
Isn’t it interesting how, even though the enemies had been defeated, a remnant remained? However, even as a remnant (small thing), the enemy had the potential to stop God’s people. Here is my point. Jesus said the kingdom of God is within.
Give Me My Mountain sermon video audio notes
Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
To experience the abundant life Jesus came to give each of us, we must drive out the enemy from within. The Amorites of lust and the Jebusites of bad habits must be defeated. The only thing ever stopping us is that which is within us. We are to take control of our lives.
However, a remnant will remain within no matter how victorious we are. How many have ever battled with a habit and defeated it only to find, in a few months or years, you were doing the same thing again? If you have ever smoked cigarettes and decided to stop smoking, you may have defeated the enemy only to find the habit came back again and again. Don’t mishear what I am trying to say.
The Bible doesn’t say cigarette smoking is a sin, so neither do I. Yet, you know if you smoke, it may well kill you with lung cancer. Why do people continue to smoke? Because they LOVE smoking! They have become intimate with it – got to have it. It’s a snare and a trap to their health. It’s a scourge to their body, and they are blinded of its potential. “It won’t happen to me.”
Does God love people who smoke cigarettes or people who have any habit? Absolutely! But will he drive you out of your abundant life if you LOVE it and want it? No. He will let you live with it for the rest of your life, and then if you decide to drive it out, he will help you again.
We all have things that can potentially destroy us, and we know it.
Instead of driving it totally out, we allow just a little of it to hang around. Just a little porn won’t hurt, right? The next thing you know, your mind is consumed with thoughts and images. Just one smoke of marijuana won’t mess me up, right? The next thing you know, you are looking for some meth. You find you love it, and you have married it.
I see this so frequently. Someone will get the victory. Then, maybe they begin missing church. The remnant is arising. Before long, they are snared, scourged, and blinded. Keep fighting and the remnant will become smaller and weaker. The Lord has great plans for a life for you beyond your greatest dreams. Defeat the remnant and experience the abundant life.

During the division of the land, a man named Caleb approached Joshua. Caleb was determined to drive out the remnant. He was one of the twelve spies of the previous generation. Ten spies came back with bad reports, but Joshua and Caleb came back with a positive “we can do it” report. Did you know that because of the positive report, Joshua and Caleb remained alive and healthy and entered the Promised Land? Here is what the Lord said.
Numbers 32:11 Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years old or more who came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob –
Numbers 32:12 not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the LORD wholeheartedly.
How important is it to give and listen to a positive report? Caleb and Joshua were given long life, health, and prosperity. I want to encourage you today to give positive reports. Don’t listen to negative stuff. Avoid negative and critical people. They are no fun anyway. Always find good things to say about people and life. It will add years, health, victory, and prosperity to your life.
Joshua 14:10 “Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!
Joshua 14:11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.
Isn’t this great? Caleb was as strong and vigorous at eighty-five as he was when he was forty, and it was because he gave a positive report, refused to listen to a negative report, and agreed with the Lord’s plan.
Give Me My Mountain sermon video audio notes
Caleb boldly walked up to Joshua and said, GIVE ME MY MOUNTAIN.
Joshua 14:12 Now therefore GIVE ME THIS MOUNTAIN, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I SHALL BE ABLE TO DRIVE THEM OUT, as the LORD said.
Joshua 14:13 And Joshua blessed him and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
If you could walk up to Jesus right this moment and say, “GIVE ME MY __________” what would it be? Do you know what your MOUNTAIN is? Our lives exist to accomplish something. You were born to possess a mountain. Forty-five years earlier, God showed Caleb something, and Caleb said, “This is what I want. I will want this the rest of my life.” What is it you want from life? (PA– USE) All of life comes down to your mountain.
As I began looking at Caleb, one constant statement followed him throughout his life. It is mentioned again and again about Caleb: Caleb followed the Lord wholeheartedly.
Numbers 14:24 But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly…
Numbers 32:12 not one except Caleb… and Joshua …for they followed the LORD wholeheartedly.
Deuteronomy 1:36 except Caleb …because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly.
Give Me My Mountain sermon video audio notes
Joshua 14:8, 9, 14
8 …I, however, followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.
9 …because you have followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.
14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.
I read a story about the dedication of French soldiers to Napoleon. It was not unusual for a mortally wounded soldier to say with his final breath to Napoleon, “Vive Emperor!” One of the most eloquent expressions of all came from the lips of a soldier who had been shot in the chest. As the surgeon attempted to remove the bullet, the suffering man whispered, “If you go much deeper, Doctor, you’ll come to the Emperor!”
Napoleon was not just in the heart of the soldier. Napoleon was the heart of the soldier. The Lord wasn’t in the heart of Caleb. The Lord was the heart of Caleb. Caleb followed the Lord WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Who or what is your heart?
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Good things always happen when we follow the Lord wholeheartedly. We obtain what our life is about. We defeat giants and grasshoppers. Caleb not only had to defeat life’s giants. He had to defeat the mentality of people who saw themselves as grasshoppers. You have to do this. We are surrounded by grasshopper-thinking people.
If you possess your mountain, you must defeat small thinking and defeatism thinking. Think about it. Probably Caleb’s parents were among those who listened to grasshopper reports. Caleb had relatives and friends with grasshopper thinking, but Caleb was of a different spirit, and Caleb got his mountain.
Give Me My Mountain sermon video audio notes
Numbers 14:24 But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.
We need to be different to possess our mountain. Caleb got his mountain when he was 85 years old. The dream is always worth the wait.
Joshua 14:14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite EVER SINCE, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.
Caleb followed his dream, leaving something big and good for his heritage. The Lord wants us to have our mountain and leave something big and good for generations to come.
The land was conquered and divided. It was getting close to the time Joshua would do what we will all do one day: leave this life and go to the next. Joshua summoned the leaders and said, “Thus saith the Lord…” (Josh 24:2). He prophetically rehearsed the history of God’s people from Abraham to the present. He told them of the never-ending faithfulness of the Lord God. Joshua then gave the word of the Lord and said this.
Joshua 24:15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then CHOOSE FOR YOURSELVES this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
Isn’t it interesting there are many gods to serve? Oh, we may not bow down and pay them homage, but we serve them. Money is a god to many. Alcohol can be a god. Nicotine can be a god. Pornography can be a god. A person can become a god in our lives. There are many gods. We must make a decision. We will serve something. What will it be?
In his book The Source, James Michener tells the story of a man named Urbaal, a farmer living in about 2200 B.C. He worshiped two gods, one a god of death, the other a goddess of fertility. The temple priests told Urbaal to bring his young son to the temple for sacrifice if he wanted good crops. Urbaal obeyed and, on the appointed day, dragged his wife and boy to the scene of the boy’s “religious execution” by fire to the god of death.
After the sacrifice of Urbaal’s boy, the priests announced one of the fathers would spend the next week in the temple with a new temple prostitute. Urbaal’s wife was stunned as Urball was selected and eagerly went forward.

She walked out of the temple, concluding, “…if he had different gods, he would have been a different man.” We all have a god or gods in our lives. This god or those gods will determine who we are and who we become.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said,
“THE GODS we worship write their names on our faces, be sure of that. And a man will worship something – have no doubt about that, either. He may think that his tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of his heart – but it will come out. That which dominates will determine his life and character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship, for what we are worshipping we are becoming.”
Joshua made it as simple as possible. The Lord God had led his people to victory and deliverance over and from any and every god. However, if they wanted to serve any of them, they could go ahead and serve inferior gods. However, for his house and himself, he would serve the Lord God.
Joshua 24:29 And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
Joshua had a long and full life and Joshua did what he was born to do. He POSSESSED THE KINGDOM. He expanded the kingdom and he helped the kingdom to come to many lives. When it is all said and done, isn’t that what we all want? We want a long and full life. We want to have accomplished what we were born to do and we want to POSSESS THE KINGDOM and live the abundant life. Moreover, we want to expand the kingdom and help others enjoy life too.
I trust we have learned from the principles we have studied from Joshua. I want to encourage you today to Arise in Violence and decide to enter your Promised Land. You will need to Find Life’s Rahabs. They have the information you must have. Get Your Feet Wet in the Spirit and in the Word of God. It will become a memorial time in your life.
Have a personal Hill of Foreskins where you have allowed the Lord to circumcise your heart again the second time, third time, fourth time, etc. Possess Your Jericho and experience the fragrance of life. Sound your prophetic trumpet and watch the walls of obstacles fall down flat. Find the Achan in You and deal harshly with it.
Give Me My Mountain sermon video audio notes
Go through the evaluation process and determine what it is causing you to lose battles.
Take Ai with a 3-way Ambush. Get your spirit, soul, and body involved in defeating the enemy. Redeem the Gibeonite in You and watch God stop the sun and moon for you. Hamstring the Horses of the enemy. Find the battle plan for each and every battle you face. Finally, Give Me My Mountain. Follow the Lord wholeheartedly, and you will live long and leave a mountain of inheritance for your heritage! You can POSSESS THE KINGDOM!
How many are going to apply these principles and enjoy the abundant life rightfully yours? Give the Lord a handclap and a shout!
