Sincere Faith Mother’s Day audio video notes. Timothy was a young pastor facing much opposition. He had critics, stomach problems, leadership problems, etc. Paul told Timothy that he could overcome those oppositions if he used the sincere faith given him, by his mother and grandmother. What is sincere faith? It’s a bold and real faith. It’s an obvious unashamed faith, and it’s an “in your face” faith. Also, it’s a faith that doesn’t quit because of opposition.

2 Timothy 1:5, 1 Corinthians 16:9, 1 Timothy 6:12, Ephesians 6:13, Habakkuk 3:17-18, Romans 8:31
Let’s talk today about SINCERE FAITH TO OVERCOMING OPPOSITION. A mother loves her children and grandchildren and wants nothing more than for them to enjoy victorious and successful lives. When victorious, mothers not only love them, they are proud of them. A mother loves every child and grandchild, but sadly, she is not always proud of every child and grandchild. A key thing a mother and grandmother do to ensure success is passing on their sincere faith.
2 Timothy 1:5 I have been reminded of your SINCERE FAITH, which first LIVED IN YOUR GRANDMOTHER Lois and IN YOUR MOTHER Eunice and, I am persuaded, NOW LIVES IN YOU ALSO.
Timothy was a young pastor facing much opposition. He had critics, stomach problems, leadership problems, etc. Paul told Timothy that he could overcome those oppositions if he used the sincere faith given him, by his mother and grandmother. What is sincere faith? It’s a bold and real faith. It’s an obvious unashamed faith, it’s an “in your face” faith, and it’s a faith that doesn’t quit because of opposition.
Never take your mother’s and grandmother’s sincere faith for granted. Mothers and grandmothers touch God for us. How many have or had a mother or grandmother with “sincere faith”? She passed that sincere, alive faith to you and to your children. If you use it, and teach your children to use it, it will not only get you through life’s oppositions, it will make you and your children victorious.
It’s a beautiful thing to watch a mother training up her children to love God and listen to his voice. It’s one of the saddest things to see the opposite when maybe social services become involved, or there’s abuse involved, etc. There is nothing like a mother’s sincere faith.
God constantly allows opposition for us all, so opposition is not a bad thing. Sincere faith will turn opposition into opportunities. Sincere faith, real faith, and living faith, always bring a successful and victorious life.
It’s Mother’s Day, but I’m talking to all of us. God gives every person opportunities for success, but with every opportunity comes much opposition.
1 Corinthians 16:9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are MANY ADVERSARIES.
The Apostle Paul was the most successful of the apostles, but he also faced the most adversity and opposition. Any time any of us try to go forward in life by going through doors of opportunity God gives us, the enemy immediately opposes us. It’s not easy to move to higher places in life. If it were easy, everyone would do it.
The enemy will not allow you to make progress without opposition. The moment you make the decision to improve in life, you will face adversity. The moment you decide to improve your marriage, you will face opposition. Also, the moment you make the decision to go deeper in your relationship with the Lord, you will face resistance, and the moment you decide to get out of debt, you immediately face opposition. Any time you decide to increase in any area of life, you will come face to face with MANY ADVERSARIES and oppositions.
At the same moment you decide to go higher, the enemy begins devising a plan to resist you. His plan is to force you to become discouraged, give up, and then back up. He doesn’t want you taking any of his ground. His plan is to take your ground. It is a fight requiring faith to win.
1 Timothy 6:12 FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF THE FAITH. TAKE HOLD of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
FAITH MEANS FIGHT.
It’s a battle in the supernatural. Again, we see the apostle instructing Timothy if he is going to be successful against opposition, he will need to use his faith and fight and TAKE HOLD of the life he wants.
Perhaps your dream is a fulfilling marriage. Perhaps your dream is an occupational success. Maybe your dream is for God to use you more. Whatever God placed in your heart to experience, you must realize your dream will not come to pass unopposed. The enemy will not roll out the red carpet and welcome you to a new level of abundant life. No. The enemy will fight you every step of the way.
For example, depression: the moment you make a decision to rise out of depression and say, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am going to beat this thing. I’m going to be happy about life.” The moment you make that decision, you bleep the enemy’s radar. He immediately sends out opposition to stop you from advancing. Immediately, something happens to depress you even more. You get a depressing report from the doctor, you get a depressing phone call, or one of your children gets into trouble. Anytime you try to improve your life, you will face opposition. Again, if it were easy, everyone would do it.
Too often, we have the attitude, “Well, the preacher said God wanted me to live in victory, but God must not want that for me.
Nothing goes my way. Since I made the decision to live for God everything in the world has happened to me.” No. Realize number one, you can’t be a victor without a victory. But, mostly realize, because you are facing difficulties doesn’t mean you are out of God’s will. IT PROBABLY MEANS YOU ARE IN THE CENTER OF GOD’S WILL. It’s the enemy bringing opposition to stop you from going forward in life.
I talk to people all the time who tell me they’ve been reading their Bible, praying, trying to give more, and being faithful about coming to church, but never had so many things go wrong in their lives.
What’s going on? You showed up on the enemy’s radar and he is turning up the heat on you. He plans to discourage you enough to give up and go back to the way you were, or worse. You are trying to take his territory and he refuses to release it simply because you want it.
Here is how it works. You step out in faith to do what you believe God wants you to do and what you want to do. Immediately, the enemy opposes you very strongly. If you do not give in, stand your ground, and fight the good fight of the faith, eventually the enemy will back off (the time varies on the territory at stake). You gain that ground. You will stay there a while and God will put another, even bigger dream/desire in your heart. A door opens. You step out in faith and the same thing happens. The enemy opposes you. If you stand your ground with sincere faith, he backs off and you gain that ground. That’s how you keep going forward in life. That’s SINCERE FAITH TO OVERCOMING OPPOSITION.
Sometimes so much comes against you that you can’t go forward. The key then is to stand strong and not lose the ground you already gained.
Ephesians 6:13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to STAND YOUR GROUND, and AFTER YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING, TO STAND.
There is a day of opposition for all when we can’t go forward. When that day comes, dig in, STAND, AND DON’T GO BACKWARD. STAND YOUR GROUND. You’ve done EVERYTHING you know to do – went to church, read your Bible, prayed, gave – now dig in and stand. Don’t get negative, Don’t get bitter, Don’t blame people or God. If you will STAND YOUR GROUND with sincere faith, the enemy will back off and you will advance.
Make sure you see the cycle. You step out in faith. The enemy comes to oppose you. You stand your ground. He backs off and you gain that ground and march forward fulfilling your dreams, hopes, desires, and destiny.
Many give up when they face opposition.
They don’t understand what’s happening. For example, a couple having marital problems comes to church, hears a lesson about having a better marriage, and agrees to work on their marriage. They get home and there it goes. They get into the biggest argument ever. So they think, “Well, what Delbert said certainly doesn’t work. I had this vision for a great fulfilling marriage, but this marriage is just not to be.” No. That’s exactly what the enemy wants you to think and say. He wants you to give up and surrender. Realize you have an enemy and you are trying to take ground from him. You simply need to dig in and fight the good fight of faith. Once he sees you’re not backing down and you are standing in your faith, he will back off and you will take that ground.
When everything goes wrong that can go wrong, here’s the attitude of SINCERE FAITH TO OVERCOME OPPOSITION.
Habakkuk 3:17-18 “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD, I WILL JOY IN THE GOD OF MY SALVATION
That’s “in your face” faith. People tell me all the time, “I am going to get God involved in my finances. I am going to give and tithe.” Can you guess what immediately happens? The car breaks down. The washer goes out. Unexpected bills come up. You are laid off from work. Your business slows down. That thing you want so badly and wait to go on sale, goes on sale. What just happened? Do you think the enemy wants you to give to the kingdom? Anytime you try to do something greater for God, you will face more challenges than you can imagine. You have to keep your faith and do the right thing even when the wrong thing is happening to you.
Any time we try to make progress, the enemy will oppose us. We decide to be at church faithfully. What happens? The children get sick on Saturday night. You get sick on Saturday night. Bad weather comes on Saturday night or Sunday morning. Realize, you have shown up on the enemy’s radar. If you are doing nothing and are stagnant in God, the enemy will not bother you. You are no problem.
The Bible tells about the Children of Israel.
They were camped next door to their Promised Land. It was the land they, and their ancestors, dreamed about possessing. God told them he would give it to them. All they needed to do was go in and FIGHT. It’s a principle. God will give you land, but you still have to fight. You would think they would march in the land with confidence knowing God was on their side after God parted the Red Sea, provided manna from heaven, brought water from a rock, and did all the miracles they saw in Egypt. Instead, what happened? They backed down. Instead of focusing on their faith, they focused on the opposition. They didn’t fight and they wandered in the wilderness the rest of their lives.
Some here are next door to your dream today. Today, you are camped next door to your promised land. There is a dream in your heart to enter your Promised Land, but between you and your dream are adversaries and oppositions. You are tempted, as were the children of Israel, to back down. God is saying to you exactly what he said to them. He will give you the land if you will fight for it. “I’ll give you the fulfilling marriage of your dreams if you will fight.” “I will give you that promotion if you will have faith.” “I will give you financial freedom if you will have faith to overcome opposition.” What will you do?
David had a destiny and a word from God to be king of Israel, but the enemy fought him every step of the way.
Every chapter of David’s life is about some adversity David faced – giants, rejection, death of closest of friends, depression, loneliness, sin, death of children, wife leaving him, you name it. It was opposition after opposition. David held on to his dream and stood strong. David’s attitude was…
Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Every one of you has a dream in your heart from God. It will not happen without opposition. Mothers, pass on to your Timothy’s and Timothyets a sincere faith to overcome oppositions. Help them understand faith changes oppositions into opportunities. When it gets tough and everything comes at you, stand. Don’t give up the ground you have already gained. Outlast the enemy – outlast the trouble, outlast the sickness, outlast the financial problems, outlast adversity. Do not wander in the wilderness. Live in your Promised Land of Abundance. If God be for you, who can be against you? Live in SINCERE FAITH THAT OVERCOMES OPPOSITION.
