Blessings for Generations sermon video audio notes. A reason I Love My Church and church universal is because it has the ability to bring blessings to GENERATIONS. I look at this church and the influence it’s already had on GENERATIONS is awesome. I look at Judy’s and my children and I say, “Wow.” This church played a major role in the people my children are today. Many of our parents say the same thing. Our church has helped produce some amazing young adults. That’s what a church is supposed to do.

Scriptures: Ephesians 3:20-21, Matthew 6:20, Deuteronomy 1:11, Exodus 20:5, 6, 2 Chronicles 17:3, 2 Kings 20:2-3, 2 Kings 20:5-6, Genesis 15:13-14, Exodus 12:35-36

A reason I LOVE MY CHURCH and church universal is because it has the ability to bless GENERATIONS. I look at this church and the influence it’s already had on GENERATIONS is awesome. I look at Judy’s and my children and I say, “Wow.” This church played a major role in the people they are today. Many of you parents could say the same thing. Our church has helped produce some amazing young adults. That’s what a church is supposed to do.

Ephesians 3:20-21  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all WE ASK or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory IN THE CHURCH and in Christ Jesus THROUGHOUT ALL GENERATIONS, for ever and ever! Amen.

How many of us have asked God to help our children? There is power in the church to help them. Through the church, generations are blessed. How many have godly hard-working, God-loving, church-going parents, or grandparents, or great grandparents? It’s not difficult to look back and find “Jesus following” ancestors. Even if your parents didn’t, you probably had a granny, etc.

What influence and blessing do you feel they had on your life? What if there was no church and your ancestors were pure evil or idol worshipers? Or, what kind of person would you be today? Also, what kind of people would your children be without the blessing and influence of church?

However, your ancestors’ influence and blessing did not stop when they died. They laid up treasures in heaven. Jesus said so…

Matthew 6:20   But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Blessings for Generations

Your godly ancestors had an account with treasures in heaven. If your ancestors laid up treasures and never used them, where are those treasures now? If they are still there, who has the right to them? Would you like to tap into those treasures?

Deuteronomy 1:11  And may the LORD, THE GOD OF YOUR ANCESTORS, MULTIPLY YOU A THOUSAND TIMES MORE AND BLESS YOU AS HE PROMISED!

There are blessings coming to you because of your ancestors. God promised! You have a right to blessings because of them – A THOUSAND TIMES MORE blessing – what they laid up accrued.

Can we comprehend being blessed with a THOUSAND TIMES MORE? A thousand times more wisdom. A thousand times more abilities, and a thousand times more opportunities. How about a thousand times more income? Are you bold enough to believe for, ask for, and expect that?

My grandfather and my dad told me stories about how they worked during the Depression for ten cents to twenty-five cents an hour to survive. I had an opportunity to share a series of messages at a church. It was about four hours of teaching. They gave me over $1000 for those four hours I taught. If you do the math, you will see God is faithful to his promises. (I wish Dad and Grandpa had made $1 an hour. There is no telling what I could have today.)

If you are a person of faith, a Christ follower, you should go further than your grandparents and further than your parents. That’s how God designed it. Your children and your grandchildren should go further than you. It’s partially because of laying up treasures and loving God.

God loves you and he wants to show you love especially if you had ancestors who loved and walked with him.

Blessings for Generations

Exodus 20:5  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, PUNISHING the children for the sin of the fathers to the THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATION of those who hate me,

Preachers emphasize the “generational curses” telling us we must pay for our great, great, great, great grandfather’s mess-ups, but that’s not what the Lord is emphasizing. Next verse…

Exodus 20:6  but SHOWING LOVE TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS of those who love me and keep my commandments.

God’s emphasis is not that he will punish you and yours for 3 or 4 generations. The emphasis is that God WILL SHOW LOVE AND BLESS YOU AND YOURS FOR A THOUSAND GENERATIONS. Somebody shout! God shows you love and gives you blessings because you and your ancestors love him. If someone back as far as a THOUSAND generations loved God, God will show you love for his or her sake. You already said you had God-loving parents and grandparents. IT’S A PROMISE.

Every one of us had times when we seemed to “stumble” into blessings. We didn’t work for it. We didn’t do anything to deserve it. What happened? It was the love of God coming to us from our ancestors’ treasure. Somebody prayed, and somebody lived for and loved God. Somebody kept God’s commandments, and somebody loved to give. You will find somebody tithed, and somebody loved to serve. Somebody loved to talk to God about God, and somebody loved God’s word. Somebody helped others. They had no idea at the time, but they laid up treasures for you in heaven just as you today lay up treasures in heaven for your generations to come.

Can you think of some undeserved blessing you received for no reason at all?

Maybe a law officer caught you speeding, but let you go without a citation. Maybe someone gave you some cash. Or, maybe you got a job or a promotion you were not expecting. Maybe you married the perfect person you didn’t deserve. Or, maybe you had those amazing children you can’t explain. Maybe, you, like me, have a great job you never planned to have. My point is so many blessings in life are because generations before us loved God and did their best to keep his commandments. That’s God SHOWING LOVE TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS.

Blessings for Generations

Some say, “I’m successful because I studied. I am a college grad. I worked hard.” Yes, there is no substitute for hard work, but even in that, you inherited traits from your ancestors helping make that possible. Your desire to succeed came from somewhere. Somebody ahead of you, developed their gifts adding them to your gene pool. It may have been hundreds, even thousands, of years ago, but someone in your family line honored God and now you reap the benefits.

Many things we get to experience in our lives were things our parents prayed for themselves, but never experienced. They prayed for their own prosperity and success. They may have prayed for a big house like you live in today.

I will never forget the first time my parents came to visit us in LaFayette.

I gave them directions to our house, and I was outside waiting for them when they came to our driveway. They stopped and then drove on. Later, after I got them there, Mom said, “It was too big a house and we thought only rich people would live there.” Our house isn’t that big, but to them it was. They sacrificed all their lives for a house like our house. They laid up treasures for me and my family.

We don’t exactly understand it, but our desires, battles, sacrifices, and prayers lay the groundwork for our children, grandchildren, and generations to come. The life you live today will bless a THOUSAND generations to come.

David loved God and walked in God’s ways. David desired to build a temple for God. He prayed, battled, sacrificed, and provided the money and resources for the temple, but Solomon was the one blessed by David’s groundwork. The temple, called “Solomon’s Temple,” existed because of Solomon’s father, David.

What, in your life, exists because of God’s SHOWING LOVE TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS?

Your grandparents and parents prayed, believed, sacrificed, and dreamed, but you walk, seemingly stumbled, into their blessing.

Blessings for Generations

You may say, “Delbert, I didn’t have godly parents and grandparents.” Listen, God said, “TO A THOUSAND GENERATIONS!” A few hundred years back, you may find the most holy and generous Christ follower ever as an ancestor.

King David died around 1015 BC. A hundred years and four generations later, Jehoshaphat became king. We read…

2 Chronicles 17:3  The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years HE WALKED IN THE WAYS HIS FATHER DAVID had followed… The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.

Kings Rehoboam, Abijah, and Asa were evil and did not walk in God’s ways, Yet, because of David’s walk with God a hundred years earlier, the Lord blessed Jehoshaphat.

Three hundred years after David and many evil generations, King Hezekiah was dying. Isaiah told Hezekiah to get his house in order for he would not recover from his illness and die. He had a bad report.

2 Kings 20:2-3  Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, “Remember, O LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

There is nothing wrong with reminding the Lord of our faithfulness. God sent Isaiah the prophet back to Hezekiah.

2 Kings 20:5-6  “…This is what the LORD, THE GOD OF YOUR FATHER DAVID, SAYS: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I WILL HEAL YOU. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD. I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake AND FOR THE SAKE OF MY SERVANT DAVID.'”

Blessings for Generations

WOW! God healed, added fifteen years to his life, and delivered him, his family, and the entire city because Hezekiah’s grandfather 14 generations previous loved God! David’s life continued to make a difference 14 generations later. Your life will make a difference and I assure you that someone before you made a difference bringing you healing, wealth, deliverance, etc. We need to believe and ask for those blessings. We can remind God. Hezekiah got his blessing only because he asked. Sometimes we have to ask.

The children of Israel were slaves for four hundred years in Egypt, which did not catch God unprepared. He told Abraham about Egyptian slavery three generations before it happened (Isaac, Jacob, Joseph).

Genesis 15:13-14  Then the LORD said to him, Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and AFTERWARD THEY WILL COME OUT WITH GREAT POSSESSIONS.

It happened and God sent and used Moses who supernaturally delivered God’s people. As they were exiting Egypt, we read…

Exodus 12:35-36  And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed and ASKED the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold. THE LORD CA– USED the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites WHATEVER THEY ASKED FOR. So, like a victorious army, they plundered the Egyptians!

What happened? Don’t miss the flow. Because of their ancestor Abraham and his covenant walk with God this happened. Then God kept records of the four hundred years of laid-up treasures owed to the previous generations and gave it to the generation who rose up and said, “We are going to walk with God.” The people who lived in Egypt all those years never received the blessing. It accumulated. It accrued and those who walked with God got it.

Blessings for Generations

Likely, there were ancestors mistreated in your lineage, or not paid what they were worth. My dad and grandpa were worth more than twenty-five cents an hour. Maybe there were some bondages of addiction causing slavery. Where would you be had all your ancestors loved God and received what they could have had? How much more would you have in every area had they earned what they deserved or did not lose it to their bondage? That’s how much is stored up for you plus what it’s accrued. Every dream taken from them, every injustice, everything taken or stolen, you can be the one to get it. Do you dare pray, rise up, remind the Lord, and ask for it? Dare say, “I am going to walk with God? There is a THOUSAND TIMES blessing for me.”

Some of you are the ones who left Egypt.

You changed history for all generations after you. I did. I am bold enough to ask for my THOUSAND TIMES blessing God promised.

God loves you and desires to bless you. Instead of saying, “I can’t catch a break. I never get what I should get,” say, “God, I know you are just. I know I have ancestors generations back who laid up treasures. So, I am believing for you to give me favor and bless me with my treasures, and I will bring you glory!”

This can be your best year ever. God wants to bless you with a THOUSAND TIMES blessing. God’s church reaches all your generations. LOVE YOUR CHURCH. It has changed your generation and your children’s generation. You have ancestors going back a THOUSAND generations who laid up treasures. It’s time to come out of your Egypt with the favor of God and ask for your THOUSAND TIMES BLESSINGS. Here is what will happen. You will get special opportunities you don’t deserve. Blessings from nowhere will overtake you. People, for no reason, will be good to you and show you favor.

Blessings for Generations

Frustrating things will fall into place. You will experience wisdom and answers like never before. Your dreams will come true. I declare it on you and upon us. Those blessings are coming your way.

I want to hear about them. When they happen say, “Thank you, grandpa and grandma.” Then, give glory to God.
