Power Thoughts – How to Experience Victory in the Mind

Ephesians 6:13, Hebrews 10:35-36, 2 Corinthians 2:14, 1 Samuel 30:3-4, 1 Samuel 30:6, Acts 16:25-26, John 5:5-6, John 5:8-9, Psalms 51:10

When we live in peace and faith, we are stress-free, which allows God to work in our lives. When we live in worry, fear, and stress, we are allowing the enemy to work in our lives. Worry and stress are not from God.

2 Timothy 1:7  For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of CALM AND WELL-BALANCED MIND and discipline and self-control. (Amplified Bible)

We cannot have power, love, and the calmness of life unless we have a calm and well-balanced mind. You cannot live in victory and happiness unless you DISCIPLINE your mind to think victorious and happy thoughts.

When we are worried and stressed, it’s as if we are running a DVD in our minds, playing the enemies’ lies over and over. “You can’t fix this problem.” “You’re never going to get well.” “You will never get out of debt.” “You will never see your dreams come to pass.” If you hear that long enough, you will begin to believe it is true. People do this because they do not know how to control their thoughts. They constantly dwell on negative, destructive, and stressful thinking. The Bible tells us what we should think so we can control our thought lives.

Philippians 4:8  …FIX YOUR THOUGHTS ON what is true and honorable and right. THINK ABOUT things that are pure and lovely and admirable. THINK ABOUT things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

In other words, God tells us to THINK POWER AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS. FIX YOUR THOUGHTS. “Fix” as in correcting or adjusting, and “fix” in attaching on. Why did the apostle say this? It’s important! It’s because YOUR LIFE FOLLOWS YOUR THOUGHTS. We think and say, “I think I will do (something).” Then we do it. If your life is messed up, it’s because your thoughts are messed up. People think about the negative and wonder why negative things happen to them. They wonder why nothing good happens. It’s because their minds are FIXED in the wrong direction. You can’t constantly have thoughts of worry and fear and expect to live in happiness and victory.

Fix Your Power Thoughts

We all have negative thoughts that come to us every single day. We can’t stop them from coming. They sneak up on us, but we can choose to give them life or death by thinking about them or not thinking about them. We control the doorway to our minds. We can shut the door to stressful thoughts and open the door to POWER THOUGHTS—FIX on the good, pure, lovely, admirable, etc.

Joshua 1:8  Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; MEDITATE ON IT DAY AND NIGHT, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. THEN YOU WILL BE PROSPEROUS AND SUCCESSFUL.

Successful thinking produces a successful living. Your life goes where your thoughts take you. God says if we fill our minds with faith and the good news, we will have a prosperous and successful life.

The Hebrew word translated meditate is hagah actually meaning to murmur (in pleasure or anger); by impl. to ponder. It’s the same thing we do when we worry and stress out, except it’s FIXED in the opposite direction. When you worry, you meditate on and murmur about things that are not lovely, pure, admirable, and worthy of praise.

Most people think meditating on God’s word is laboriously quoting scriptures.

That’s ok. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that, but meditating on God’s word is really thinking about and murmuring about his promises, which are all yes and amen (2Co 1:20). Meditating on God’s word is powerful kingdom thinking – righteousness, peace, and joy (Rom 14:17). Meditating on God’s word is murmuring about the healing God promised you, or overcoming any problem, or promises concerning your prosperity. It’s impossible to be down and “woe is me” when you meditate on God’s word. You know something good is about to happen to you. You know your business is going to prosper, and your children will excel, and you will be healed. These are the thoughts God wants you to dwell on.

Let me ask you today about what are you meditating on. What is going on in your mind? What’s going on in your mind determines the life you live and the stress you have. When you dwell on the negative, you believe for the negative. You actually activate the enemy’s power, so don’t be surprised if you get exactly what you believe.

Job 3:25  What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.

This gives us insight into why all that mess happened to Job. When we agree with the enemy in our thinking, we give him permission to bring it to pass. People go around saying, “I’m afraid my business will never grow.” ” I’m afraid my children will get hooked up with the wrong crowd, marry the wrong person, and get divorced.” “People say, I’m afraid I will get the same disease my mother had.” “I’m afraid my marriage will end in divorce.”

Fix Your Power Thoughts

It’s as if they make reservations, calling ahead. Realize what you are doing. You are opening a door to the enemy and giving him a foothold in your head. Instead, say, “No, my marriage will be fulfilling and happy.” Say, “That disease will not get me. I slam the door to that fearful thought. I refuse to think about that. Also, I prosper and am in good health because my soul is prospering.” Fix your mind on long life, success, and God’s blessings on you and your household.

I had an uncle who constantly talked about how my aunt was driving him crazy. He said, “I’m afraid I will lose my mind because of her.” I remember that from when I was about twelve years old. If he said it once, he said it a thousand times. His mind “was fixed.” Sure enough, he spent the last fifteen years of his life suffering from Alzheimer’s and truly did lose his mind. The thing he feared came upon him. What he dreaded happened.

We all probably know a similar story. You’ve got to THINK ON GOOD THINGS! I don’t know about you, but I’ve fixed my mind, so when I get old, I’m not going to be a grouch, bent over, frail, blind, deaf, with Alzheimer’s, or Dementia.

Psalms 103:1-5  Praise the LORD, O my SOUL; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my SOUL, and FORGET NOT all his benefits –  who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Notice, the benefits connect with disciplining the soul – mind, will, emotions, attitudes, etc. – to praise the Lord by thinking about the Lord’s benefits. That’s what I want to think about. I am forgiven. I am healed of all diseases. Also, I am crowned with love and compassion. I am satisfied with all my desires. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s. I meet people all the time in their 80’s full of joy and happiness. If they can do it, I will do it.

God does not want us to come to the end of our lives all withered up and defeated. You remember Caleb and Joshua came back with a good report after spying Canaan. At age eighty-five, Caleb said,

Joshua 14:10-12 I am this day fourscore and five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. Now therefore GIVE ME THIS MOUNTAIN

Caleb didn’t say give me a rocking chair. He said give me another mountain. We have to get rid of fear. Get rid of the fear of getting old. Get rid of the fear of the economy, and get rid of the fear concerning your job. Also, get rid of the fear over your marriage. Get rid of the fear about your children. Good or bad, you get what you believe. You go where your mind takes you.

If you live stress-free and in victory, you must have a disciplined mind. Did you know addictions happen because of undisciplined thinking? No matter what bad habit you have or addiction has you, the first thing you have to do is POWER FIX your mind. Have power thoughts about being free. See yourself free. Positively murmur all day about how you are free. Say, “I am more than a conqueror. Who the Son sets free is free indeed. The blood of Jesus Christ has freed me from sin. I am strong in the Lord and the power of his might.”

Fix Your Power Thoughts

Some people live life with a black cloud following them. They think something is always wrong, nothing is going to work out, and surely, something around the corner will go wrong. Realize that’s the enemy at work. He has infiltrated your thinking. You can’t believe in the good because you are believing and expecting the bad. If that’s you, you need to make a decision right now to break free from that thinking.

2 Corinthians 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and BRINGING INTO CAPTIVITY EVERY THOUGHT to the obedience of Christ

Some of you, what’s the first thought you have if you have a little pain in your chest? “I’m having a heart attack!” If your mind is not disciplined, your imagination will begin running wild. You begin seeing yourself falling to your knees, holding your chest, the ambulance coming, triple bypass surgery, and if you keep on, you will see your own funeral. That’s not God. That’s the enemy. Just as you see your healing through the eyes of faith, you are seeing your demise. You are murmuring negatives in your mind. Don’t give the enemy permission.

Discipline your thoughts. Think about lovely things, admirable things, pure things, and things that bring praise. Positively murmur God’s word day and night. Bring down imaginations and every thought that is not of God. Don’t imagine your marriage failing. Don’t see yourself getting a lawyer, in divorce court, and living single. Certainly, don’t see yourself going bankrupt and never having enough. Don’t imagine your children doing drugs or in a car crash. Discipline your mind and POWER FIX your thinking. Change what you are thinking and imagining, and you will change your life.

Allow me to ask you again, what is showing on the picture screen of your mind?

Do you see yourself strong, happy, healthy, and going to new, higher places in life? On the other hand, do you see yourself defeated, failing, and always struggling? Remember, God uses faith. The enemy uses fear. FIX your mind to go in the correct direction. God has a great plan for your life. Fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, and worthy of praise. God did not give you a spirit of fear. Be like Joshua. Murmur God’s word day and night and be prosperous and successful. Don’t be like Job, for what you fear and dread will come upon you.

Fix Your Power Thoughts

Be like Caleb, ready for another mountain. Don’t give the enemy permission to walk into your head. Instead, cast down imaginations and bring every thought into the obedience of Christ. SLAM THE DOOR TO NEGATIVE THOUGHTS, AND YOU WILL SLAM THE DOOR TO STRESS. Only you can control what you think. Why don’t you make a decision with me today to not worry and live in stress? Instead of stress thoughts, we are going to think good thoughts and LIVE IN POWER THOUGHTS.
