Gift Of The Prophet. Much of what we conceive about a prophet is Old Testament. There is a difference between an Old Testament and New Testament prophet. These people edify people and the church.

Luke 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

John 4:19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

John 9:17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

Edify and build up

1 Corinthians 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

Fruit

Matthew 7:20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Ephesians 4:8,11

4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
