Drive Out Demons Cure Disease Preach the Kingdom

They say, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll call in work sick,” or something like that… At this point in Luke, Jesus was the only kingdom preacher in all of Israel. Herod executed John the Baptist. Jesus was a one man operation for the entire nation, actually the entire world. God’s ministry of reaching the world was limited to where Jesus was. If the kingdom was to advance, Jesus must teach some people to fish, multiplying himself with those who won’t call in sick.

Luke 9:1-2 When Jesus had CALLED THE TWELVE TOGETHER, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Jesus is in the process of giving his ministry over to others. It’s difficult to give something over to someone when it’s been your life. It’s difficult when it’s been your “baby” – you birthed it, you nurtured it, you fought for it, you feel responsible for it, you’ll die for it. But, one person can’t do it alone even if the person is Jesus Christ. There comes a time to allow others to step up even if that means they make mistakes… (continue sermon notes)
