I want to speak today on a thought that Ralph Martin shared last week. The thought is that we create our own worlds.
Ye are gods
As we observe from the passage, the Lord created his own earth or world. The Hebrew word for God is ‘elohiym and has two primary meanings. It is the supreme God or God of creation. Also, it is used in the plural sense of God. We notice in Genesis 1:26 that God said Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.
Interestingly, in John 10:34 Jesus quoted from Psalm 82:6 and said that we were gods.
JOH 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
JOH 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
How is it that you or I could be gods? Looking at the passage in John 10:34, we see exactly why. When the word of God comes to a person, something marvelous happens. A creative ability takes place. We become enabled to speak into situations. We can speak into our worlds and bring a creative force. I know this is true because the identical word ‘elohiym used for God in Genesis chapter one is used in Psalm eighty-two from which Jesus quoted saying that we are gods.
PSA 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
Psalm 82:6 uses the same Hebrew word elohiym to speak of the children of the most High. We do notice it is gods with a “little” or lowercase “g.” We are not God, but as believers, we are the children of God and therefore ‘elohiym, and we each have the ability to create our own worlds and adjust the worlds we find ourselves in. Creating and Recreating Our Own Worlds is what we are to do.
Product of someone’s world
Each of us is a product of a world that either someone else created or a product of the world that we created. From birth, life becomes a series of adjusting to the worlds others have created. When we are born, we enter the world our parents have created. We go to school and we enter the world that the school has created. If we go away to college, we enter the world of college and get to try our hand at partially creating our own worlds. When we go to work, we live in the world of our employer. When we marry, we find ourselves combining two worlds in an attempt to make one world that works, and when we go to Orlando, we go to Disney World or Seal World. We can watch Television and see Wayne’s World.
Yet, at some time along the way, I am given the opportunity to create my own world. Jesus said we are in this world, but not of this world (Joh 17:15-16). Another way to say that is we are not prisoners of this world. What I mean by this is I create my own environment. I determined my spouse. I determined the area I would live, and I determined the house in which I would live and raise my family. Also, I determined the habits I practiced that were both good and bad. I determined how I would handle my money. We Create and Recreate Our Own Worlds.

Story
There were two elderly men in a nursing home. Both men were very ill. One lay by the only window in that room. Once each day a nurse would come into the room and raise his bed propping the old man up to look out the window. The other man could not sit up at all. He, in his condition, had to lay flat on his back. The two became friends and talked and shared about their lives. Every day the man next to the window would describe to the other man what he was seeing outside the window. There was a park where children played and lovers walked. There was a pond where ducks swam and young boys fished, and there was a street where cars passed. One day there was a parade and the man next to the window described the parade going by.
We see three types of people in our story that apply to the body of Christ and to our church. One person will only hear about all the wonders outside the window. They will never experience them and never position themselves to even see them. They are held captive by their own sick bed. At best, they will only hear about what someone else is experiencing as they lay awaiting the end.
Another can actually observe and even talk about all the wonders outside the window but never experience them.
Then there are those not held prisoners. They exist outside the window creating their worlds. Which are we? Are we hearing about the parade going bye, watching the parade going bye, or participating in the parade going bye?
I used the analogy of the two sick men in the hospital because I see so many believers sick today. They are in a world of being sick of debt. They are in a world of being sick of being sick, and they are in a world of being sick of family problems. Also, they are in a world of being sick of their jobs. Many times, not all the time, but many times we are in these worlds because these are the worlds we either created to live in or allowed someone to create for us to live in. Our lives, my life, and your life, are products of what we have created. We are ‘elohiym.

Principles to create and recreate our worlds
I want to draw a few principles from this passage in Genesis in an attempt to help us.
Step 1: Recognize the need for change
GEN 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
GEN 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The world that God created was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. Have you ever thought about that? Even God’s original world did not turn out so good. I’m not getting into a lot of theological stuff here. We all know that the earth is a lot older than six thousand years. The earth is millions of years old and fossils of dinosaurs prove it. Something happened to a world before us. That world, the world that God created, was now a mess. He wanted to do something about it. Do we want to do something about our messed-up worlds?
God recognized the need to recreate. It’s called repentance. We change the way we think. We adjust our thinking. It’s a sign of strength to recognize we have been doing something wrong and desire to change it.
God’s world had become without form, void, and darkness was upon it.
Let’s think just a minute here. What does without form mean? It means there was no design to it. It was paralyzed, and it was also void. That means it was nonproductive. There was no abundance. It was dark. There was no light or vision. This sounds like a lot of lives of even believers.
How many of us have said or heard others say something like, “Man, I’ve got to do something about . . .”? However that is as far as we ever go. We recognize the problem but never move to the steps to correct the problem.

Step 2: The Spirit of God must move.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Without the moving of the Spirit of God, nothing will truly change. We should recognize the necessity of the Spirit of God in our lives. This is not for tongues and goosebumps. The Spirit of God must move upon us to change our void and darkness into something wonderful and full of life. How does he do this? He will do it by reproving us (Joh 16:8). He will do this by leading us into all truth (Joh 16:13). The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to reprove (correct by conviction) us when we do anything incorrectly. In conjunction with this, he will then lead us into all truth, or the correct way of doing things.
Not one of us has not experienced the reproving of the Holy Spirit. However, if we do not move into what he has shown us then nothing will change and our world remains void.
Step 3: What we want must be spoken.

PRO 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

MAR 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Eight times we read And God said… Over and over God said, let there be… There is a creative power that is begun and released through what we say. Saying it is not all that we do, but it is a principle and a part of what we do. I am not really big on positive confession except when it comes to negative confession. I do believe we need to speak what we want in two dimensions, and I believe we need to pray it. When you pray say… Prayer is not only asking, but also declaring as elohiyms. Also, I believe we need to talk it over with counsel expressing exactly what we desire. Counsel can be our spouse, or friends, our pastor, or anyone who will be in agreement with us. A new world must be spoken.
What kind of world do you want? Learn to speak it. This is not speaking in some phony hyper-faith. It is speaking it through prayer and counsel and developing a plan.
At the time that Judy and I came into the kingdom of God, we were in debt.
I was looking out the window of my hospital sick bed at people who were not in debt. We wanted out of debt. We wrote a prayer, anointed it with oil, and read it aloud. Our prayer was that we would sell our house and use the equity to build a new house and in the process, become debt free. We sold our old house and began building the new one. I can remember going to that property and decreeing and prophesying a house. I would speak to the framed walls to be covered. Within six months we had a new house and we were totally out of debt.
Step 4: Work on the parts that need adjustment.
GEN 1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
GEN 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made . . .
The Lord had said, Let there be a firmament, but then he made the firmament function as he wanted it to function. In verse thirty-one, the Lord saw every thing that he had made. There is more to it than speaking, praying, counseling, talking, or even planning. There must be some energy released. We can speak a new world, but we will need to work to make it happen. Genesis 2:2 says, And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made. God wanted a new world and activated the Holy Spirit. He spoke what he wanted and planned its outcome. But then he worked and made it function exactly as he desired.
This is the part that so many fumbles. It’s not that people will not work, although that can be a problem. The primary problem is that we are not disciplined enough to work on the problem until we get it right. Many times we will see some success and then quit.

Step 5: A new world does not happen overnight.
GEN 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Even God did not make his new world in one day. There is usually never an instant fix. When things are a mess it takes time to correct them. There is a day one (step one). There is a day two (step two), etc. Don’t stop at day three (step three). Discipline yourself to achieve the goal.
Can you imagine what would happen if you took your most severe problem, planned seven steps to correct the problem, and did not stop until all seven steps were completed? We are notorious for stopping with step three or four.
Step 6: Give the Lord his time
GEN 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
It is from this verse that the Jews developed the “Sabbath day of rest” doctrine. Though we are not under the law nor do we acknowledge the Sabbath day as special, we do acknowledge the principle.
First, the natural and then the spiritual (1Co 15:46). Our natural being, i.e., spirit, soul, and body, must have rest. We cannot continuously work seven days a week and expect to remain healthy in our spirits, our souls, or our bodies. It is impossible. All three will suffer.
God expects us to take a day per week and worship him. In worshiping him, we acknowledge his place in our lives as necessary and desirable. Also, in worship is the ministering to others. As priests unto God, we are expected to minister to the body of Christ as needed.

I shared earlier about my wife and I desiring to be debt-free and building a house to accomplish that desire.
Included in our initial prayer we wrote, anointed, and prayed aloud, was the promise that we would not work on that house on Sunday. We would sanctify that day unto the Lord. Again, it only took six months for us to build that house and we did everything ourselves. Things that should have taken days or weeks to complete were miraculously accomplished in a very short time. I believe it was because we gave the Lord his time.
We create our own worlds. The word of the Lord today is telling you that no matter how void or dark your world is today, in a short time it can be recreated. It can be turned from something without form and void and dark into your garden of Eden. You are elohiyms.
