Does the Bible say anything about temperaments? What is the Biblical and scriptural basis for this study?

The Bible doesn’t use the word “temperament,” however it talk much about souls which is what temperament is about. Our temperament make up our souls and the soul is the eternal part of our being Jesus said,

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The soul is from where our emotions come. We are happy and sad because of what is happening in our souls.

Matthew 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

We are strengthened or weakened for our love of God and people because of our souls.

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

The words soul, souls, and soul’s are found four hundred and seventy-nine time in the Old Testament and fifty-eight times in the New Testament. The soul is a major interest in the Bible. However, it’s so sad we know so little about the soul.

FOUR FACES

This temperament study scriptural basis is taken from the book of Ezekiel. It’s in Ezekiel we learn there are four parts or four faces to our temperament – humanity or  souls.

Five hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Ezekiel received a vision from God. It is from this vision we base our study. The Lord recorded the vision for us in the book of Ezekiel. We need to read a few verses to grasp the basis of our study.

Ezekiel 1:1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

Ezekiel 1:2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin’s captivity,

The Lord gave an incredible vision to Ezekiel the prophet. The vision was specific and life-changing. So much so Ezekiel remembered the very month and day. Then Ezekiel recorded how the heavens were opened meaning the Lord God showed Ezekiel perfection.

Ezekiel 1:4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Ezekiel 1:5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of FOUR LIVING CREATURES. And this was their appearance; they had the LIKENESS OF A MAN.

In the vision, Ezekiel saw a whirlwind coming from the north. Accompanying the whirlwind was a great cloud. Instead of the great cloud being dark and gloomy, it was bright and glorious. From the middle of the bright cloud came four living creatures. Interestingly, these four creatures had the LIKENESS OF A MAN.

The Hebrew word for man is ‘adam. Please don’t miss this. The Hebrew word is ‘adam as in Adam the first person ever to live. The word ‘adam is used five hundred and forty-three times in our Bible scriptures, but only fourteen of the five hundred and forty-three uses refer to the person Adam. The primary meaning of the Hebrew word ‘adam is “mankind or humanity.” Below are a few of the many verses using the Hebrew word ‘adam, but meaning mankind or humanity.
